synthetic is man made semi has around 50% oil in it and chemicals
just go to your motor factors and buy some cheap diesel oil it does the same thing

No it doesn't, it's reclaimed oil which can cause major problems to your engine, pay a little bit extra and you'll notice the difference. I use Shell semi synthetic Diesel Oil in my motor the one recommended by the manufacturer.

Some of the London garages do this.

It more than doubles the cost of a basic service though. It's been claimed it reduces the engine noise. :?

I used to be an oil(ly) salesman. I would suggest that you check the age of the engine and what specification was originally needed for the oil.

If the original spec was for a "CC 20w-50", then stick with it or only move slightly away from the original spec, eg "CD 15w-40", which would be the next later spec.

Full Synthetic oil is vastly superior to the old mineral oils or even to a semi...but it should be used only when appropriate and not put into engines that were not designed for it.

Hope this helps.

easy to check what it should have

ATS changed my oil and filter for £39, then i saw they had put castrol EDGE in when MAGNATEC is the correct oil for a Tdci engine so went straight back and told em they could either change it, or pay for a new engine if it blew up

they changed it
