I don't know how many they will sell with it being a petrol engine.

Once diesel was cheaper than Petrol. Now it's 10p a litre more expensive.

Maybe the advantage is not all it's cracked up to be!

Aren't people saying that some in the trade are moving back to petrols?

As Eddie says the cost of fuel advantage has been eroded, and the powertrain has been made so complex - to make it seem less agricultural - that the reliability advantage has been undermined as well.

In fact are modern petrol engines more reliable than diesels?

Geely Auto UK will launch sales with the Emgrand EC7, which it describes as a C-segment car similar in size to the Ford Focus.

Won't that be a bit small?

Me and a mate run identical cars (mondeos), except ones diesel the other petrol. The diesel runs at 18p/mile the petrol 24p. Even with the price difference the diesel works out cheaper but the repair costs are higher.

plus diesels cost more to buy, the Duratorq engine is fine, however the EGR, DMF, CSC and common rail parts (injectors mainly) are 150,000 mile parts - if your lucky.

an LPG option on the petrol engine would make it the better option under 50,000 miles a year

I have a client, a "local" person who runs a fleet of Toyota Avensis petrols. Cam chain so no probs there. I have been told diesels are tougher on front tyres. Not sure why. Client says clutches on the petrol Anvensis is good for 170,000. other maintanance bills significantly lower as well as purchase price.

A lot of our "non local" clients prefer the petrol Avensis too but they have difficulty explaining why.

Possibly because diesel engines are heavier than petrol ones.

Possibly due to the amount of torque that a diesel generates and this going through the driven wheels.

I mean, I can easily spin the front wheels in third in my bog standard diesel, whereas in petrol motors I've driven previously that just wouldn't happen.

A standard two litre diesel might generate 250 lbs of torque, whereas a similar petrol car might be 100 lbs less?

Not that you need to be spinning the tyres to wear them prematurely - the torque does that and normally all the driver notices is better acceleration.

Yes, a modern diesel taxi saloon will normally have killed the dual mass flywheel by 100,000 miles or so.

A dealer will charge from a grand to £1,500 for a clutch/DMF replacement?

You only pay around £400 if you convert to the single system :D
