it will soon be time to replace my trusty old passat, and although i do like vw's, they're not without their problems. A new cab in my area has to be less than 3.5 years old when newly plated, and new shape diesel mondeos just over 3 years old, seem to be very good value compared to passats. Has anyone run a newer shape mondeo as a taxi ? Any thoughts appreciated. |

One of my friends was running one and he had a few problems with the particulate filter. He had it removed and the engine remapped and it was ok then. |

Save your money and buy a skoda Octavia or superb, the new superb has mega room Do the mondys still have rear brake caliper problems allegedly they keep on seizing up |

thanks for your replys. Have only heard good things about the mondeo, and look like decent cars with bags of room. Had a 1.8 td sierra years ago that managed 440 k miles with only one gearbox change. So hard to know what to buy these days. Passat would have been a natural choice for me, but i fear the quality has gone a bit with them. |

One of mine has been running on LPG for the last 4 years. You can also fit the flash lube system if you are worried. This lubricates the valves. I thought that engine oil was used to lubricate the engine. |

After getting a gas conversion on a toyota some years ago I was told to run on petrol for the first and last five minutes daily. The reason is gas is too dry to maintain the valve seating area ,thus a short while on petrol solves the problem . Grandads point about engine oil lubricating the system , I f engine oil was getting into the combustion chamber it would certainly oil the valves. It would also mean you had a sick motor ,you would have a smokey exhaust also poor performance and using a lot of engine oil. Hope this helps . Cheers Kevin. |
