We currently have 2 a 59 plate and a 10 plate, both are drove by key employees (keep their cars and only they drive them) We are now looking to acquire 2 more Octavias, but will be pool cars, everywhere we look, 1.6's seem to be the norm, we have 8 1.9s 09 plate or older, and haven't had any major worries with them, but were told we will have probs with 1.6s in the future, anyone got any experiences with this?

The only problem could be the DPF while it re-gens or a DPF warning light on the dash. also the DPF sensor goes duff
This can be extinguished by taking the car on a hard run of about 5 miles.
The other solution is to take the car to Shark performance, where the DPF inners are removed and the sensor deleted from the ECU, it will still pass the MOT smoke test with flying colours

Shark are the daddies when it comes to re-mapping, they re-mapped my Signum a few years ago and "BOOM" what a job they did. For that extra few miles you won't be disappointed.

Me personally I wouldn't get a 1.6 engine, loaded up with 4 passengers it's going to struggle up hill.

I have had an extended test drive in one, it has the same power output as the 1.9 at 105 bhp.
I did find that you had to give it a bit more welly to get it moving over 20 mph but after that it was just like the 1.9, being the common rail unit its almost as quiet as a petrol engine, apart from that it can keep up, its like all things new you just have to learn how they cope and anticipate changing down a gear
Go to a dealer and ask for a 24 hour test drive, or even half a day and put it through its work scenarios

Not if you get the 6 or 7 speed DSG, the clutches are quite robust once you get a single system in instead of the DMF

On a slightly different track, I note that the new Mondeo will have a 1 litre version.

I drove for somebody a while ago while my own car was in the garage it was a 1.6, they are a bit slower in acceleration terms i noticed this as my own taxi is a 1.9 PD classic, saying that though the fuel consumption is very good if you drive very eco style you should definitely achieve 70 MPG good cars all round and i'm getting a new octy in January and it will be a 1.6 TDI but I'L get the SE spec as the S spec is a bit poor i think

You might also like the new Rapid with the same 1.6 engine, you can order one now, and the new Octavia will be out next year

i was thinking of the Rapid but it is said to be a bit smaller than the octavia and the MK3 octy will be more expensive than the present model i'm thinking of getting a 12 plate one made about august or something and with 10000 miles in january

Seems an odd sized car that rapid...it's only marginally smaller than the Octavia, kind of makes you ask the question..Why Bother?
