Ive got a 2006 Mondeo Tdci that cost £4400 three years ago, owes me nothing, no finance, etc, and does 50mpg

My brother has a new company car, a merc saloon diesel (not a big one) he claims gets 75mpg

he said "75mpg, you ought to get one"

Hes got a degree, hes a well paid account manager - obviously the family brains went his way

Tell me, how many years at 30,000 a year getting an extra 25mpg would it take to break even after spending £25,000 plus interest?....

i was £16280 for a brand new superb plus £4630 for hire purchase so it was £20190 all in out of Henry's Glasgow, and i got 0 per cent VAT offer, got £1000 trade but wanted a bit more but got one with spare wheel option and it is in aqua blue and it has the 1.6 tdi engine and gets up to 65MPG and getting it in mid January, and my current car a 1.9 tdi Octavia gets up to 55 mpg so should be saving a bit on fuel but would never even think of looking at a Merc dealer, but 75 mpg sounds good

There's if you ordered the car before the 31st of January which I' did, so I paid the Base price + APR + met paint + full size spare wheel + hire purchase and interest but there was no VAT. but VAT had to written on the invoice there was no actuall VAT on the price I paid

Yes there was. Are you so stupid to not know how this works? The base price is inflated so that when the VAT is removed it looks like it is VAT free but it is just a discount. VAT is still included in the base price and is still paid to the government. That is why it is on the invoice.

No-one can sell a new car "VAT FREE" legally in the UK, when you read the fine print it actually says "UK VAT is payable, discount applied is equal to the amount of VAT paid"

FROM SKODA'S WEBSITE (read the bottom bit) "Terms and Conditions apply."

If your VAT registered you can get the discount AND the VAT back

However much MPG increase id get (regardless of car) from 50mpg to 70mpg is only 20mpg extra

1 gallon is (say) £7 so id save .......£2 a mile (ish)

the new car would cost £15k?

£15000/2 = 30,000 miles to break even? say 40,000 with fees, admin, etc...

Well still got A discount one way or an other, and well chuffed with the car lots more equipment than my current Octavia, it has ESP,drives knee airbag, curtain airbags, side, airbags, driver & passenger airbag, auto lights the list goes on and the bit of money off however it got done so I still saved £2000 and odd pound and I'm looking forward to getting it in mid January

Well I still got money off the car youse call it what you want but I know what I bought thanks, And even though yes VAT still goes to the government the deal was called 0 percent VAT offer so that is what how I referred to it and if you had looked at the Skoda website in the 1st place you would have known what I was on about. that's all I'm saying happy new year Everyone

No argument mate, every airport with a Dixons has "NO UK VAT TO PAY" offers on cameras, laptops, etc but still CHARGE 20 per cent VAT, I dont know why they dont just say theres a a discount

its always the nett price (bottom line) thats you pay regardless

what model did you have, what price was it?

1.6tdi superb estates seem to start about £17K hatchbacks about £15K

or an ex-demo 2.0tdi on a 12 plate, 7000 miles at £16250 inc vat (Id get £2708 back and only pay £13541)

The car is brand new it is getting registered in January so will be a 2013 on a 62 plate so the discount I got brought it down a bit so the price should have been about £18600 . The model is a twin door (hatch),s type,in aqua blue, with optional spare wheel, 1.6 TDI. I was thinking of the greenline version but they haven't got any coming till late February and that's too late for me so just went for the normal 1.6

That was looking good until I got to the 'suede interior.' You'd spend all your time cleaning the seats. :-(
