Hi there everyone was talking to one of the other drivers today, and he drives a vectra 150 CDTI 2008/58. It has a good bit of white smoke coming out the back of it and has been rubbish on fuel and underpowerd plus the EML is on, he has a computer that you can plug into them and came back as a swirl vaulve fault, but since its a sunday all the garages are shut anyone know what is broke and how much to fix

swirl pots on the inlet no doubt

tell him to pop the engine cover off and look for the link rod

it will either be jammed or sitting across the inlet

2 secs and i'll post a pic up

looks like this

Image

what happens is that the bar pictured wears and falls off the swirl valves(only one is motorized the other 3 are driven by the bar)

the car runs pants looses power and economy and throws fault codes, normally white smoke isn't a issue (tell him to check the water level see if its about to suffer from HGF

but the bar above going is a replacement inlet manifold job, which is a dirty horrible long job to undertake

temp fix though is a pack of rubber washers and some glue.

IE

Image sizes are on that basically give the plastic cups on the bar a quick sand down glue a washer on the bottom of each and then force it back over the swirl valves once they set. I managed an extra 20k before I ended up changing the inlet.

that said you may find the swirl pots are seized solid, certainly worth checking before you go faffing about with the bar. if he wants the full guide i'll publish my written copy up when I get the chance

will write that down and tell him tomorrow if i see him, looks like a big job and could cost a few £££ to replace, said it had been under powered, rubbish MPG and lots of white smoke out the back, it has 60,000 miles on it

if he needs help sourcing one I've got a trade account with Vaux,,

you can get the inlet and gasket for approx. £170 if it needs to be fully replaced

otherwise you can do it for a quid :)

not very many up here only about 8 or something like that not many of the drivers like them, my mate who has the vectra in question said that if any more problems arise its getting traded in for a octavia or superb about a year old but he is looking at his options, my cousin also has a vectra (not a taxi just for private use) she had to change both her rear discs at 42,000 which i was surprised at, my octavia got 106,000 out of its rear disc brakes but i never changed the front discs,

nowt wrong with the Vectras

mine had a hard 250k on her when she was written off.

the problems only seem to arise when you molly cuddle them, treat em rough and they respond well.

they do eat discs and pads though :) that said the only service stuff mine had was a clutch at 140k and a inlet manifold replaced but that's a known design fault

other than that it was oil filters and the never ending supply of pads

yep when she came into the house one day and said that her vectra had been in the garage, asked her what was done to it she said a normal service and new rear discs, i was stunned when she said discs and at 42,000. my octavia at the time and more than double that millage with plenty of meat on them still, asked her if they were scored or cracked or something, but she said that they were done, that is rubbish if the discs can only do 40,000 miles or there about's, i was thinking vectra at the time of getting a new taxi in 2008 but sat in one and didn't like the seats so just got another Octy

was speaking to Andy today, and he said that he took it to a vauxhall dealer and they said it needed the swirl valves replaced. Quoted him. wait for it £600 was amazed when he said it, thought it would be cheaper than that, he booked it in for this Wednesday and he will get it back on Friday so he will be losing time off, he is not happy at all

sorry skippy  would be too old to be put on in this area, thanks for the advice and offer foxtrot but he booked it in earlier on today said too him that i was on the form looking for advice, but he said no more time can be wasted and the car needs to be fixed ASAP, but he is not happy with the price and time it is going to take. he is just going to take tomorrow off cause the car cut out umpteen times today and is not pulling well. lets hope it gets fixed, if he can get there that is the weather was a blizzard earlier on for about an hour never seen it as heavy in my life and was terrible in heart hill as two of our cars were stuck over there
