Today I took my E7 back off the driver, due to 2 weeks unpaid settle, I'm afraid the next driver is not going to have it so easy, the cab is nothing short of disgusting, partly my fault for not having inspected it from time to time, absolutely filthy....those floor covers which cover the rear seat "feet" seized solid, the ramp access cover also seized....all freed now after a LARGE can of WD40. Stinks to high heaven!!
Remnants of a chucker!! FFS!! some people have no shame, or do they just not see what the rest of us see, or is it because it's not theirs and they couldn't give a stuff!! I know they can't be spotless all the time, but come on!!

A lesson to us all.

Some people treat stuff that isn't their's, in a similar way as gardeners treat their roses.

Know the feeling, i had a driver on my general Sierra a few years ago, every time he brought the car back it had a fault and he always said "it wasn't me it wasn't me!" one day my nice in law saw him driving it over the bridge works in Motherwell at gods speeds, she told me and i sacked him and he wrecked the shock's while doing so. And his attitude was rubbish to he drove for me in 1998 when me and my wife recently had a baby, but he just opened the back door without knocking and say to my wife "ow get that kettle on!" some people have no respect!

That is terrible. My drivers walk in and put the kettle on themselves.

its rare for a mere "driver" to care for a vehicle like an owner driver will, if you check his MPG you will proabably find its 10% less than you could get too, 1 reason why i sacked a van driver doing a manchester for me was while he was 20 minutes quicker than me he only got 28mpg whereas i got 33, same van, same load, so its obvious he was belting it somewhere

Don't you make them pay an advance settle before they start? If they default on one weeks settle you've got their advance settle in the draw, if they don't pay the 2nd week it's take back time with only one weeks settle lost.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, as soon as it became apparent that he was "struggling" I should've taken action, it starts off a day late then 2/3 days late, and before you know it its a week late, yes a soft touch I hear you say, I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt............a couple too many in this case!!

Only once had a driver on my cab and he wrote it off....never again. he walks away with it only having cost him his insurance excess (£200 at the time), I'm left with having to buy a new cab (26K) no insurance NCD taking me 4+ years to get it back  Never found I made any extra money off him, increase in tyres, brakes, general wear and tear ffs.... only benefit was I got to have every weekend off but it was a high price to pay.

Whilst I sympathise with you there are always 2 sides to a story,

We have people jockeying cabs whose owners will disregard any attempts by the drivers to get the cab serviced, buy new tyres, supply replacement bulbs etc etc. Some owners are solely interested taking the settle with the least amount of input into the maintenance of the vehicle. This then has the knock on effect of instilling the couldn`t care less attitude into the drivers as the vehicles slowly decline and the owners only take an interest when the money stops.

Yes there are 2 sides to every story, and, I am sure there are owners the like of which you speak here, but I'm not one of those, the cab cost a lot and needs to be looked after... a stitch in time and all that.
