Expensive zero emission cars like the Tesla won't be immune from Road Tax.

There is a new Tesla being launched in the states next month with a price tag of $35,000. Hopefully by the time it is launched here it will be below the threshold.

It'll cost a damned sight more here in GBP than it would in Dollars in the US of A...Everthing is way pricier here after we import it from the US and slap this and that Tax on it.

Import duty at 10% and VAT at 20% Shipping is about £600.

Plus we are one of the few RHD markets in the world so the cost of the RHD has to be born by UK, Aus and Japanese buyers (mostly)

Plus we live in rip-off Britain (known as Treasure Island to some companies)

Nil Co2 = Nil VED tho?

"Cars above £40,000 pay £310 annual supplement for five years".....is that £40k PLUS vat or inc?, if it was important im sure Tesla could come up with a £39,999 + vat model but i doubt it is

Electric car doesn’t need gas, but it still might get its energy from burning carbon. It depends on how your local grid generates electricity

till there are viable leccy cars OTR price at £39,999 then the threshold will be £35,000

and it will drop every time the costs of leccy cars fall
