Surprised how many people this year actually asked the office to send a car with air-con. :-s

Do you think we should have an extra charge on the tariff sheet, cos it ain't bloody cheap. :-k

Sussex if you had any diesel Skoda or Kia, you would only loose 1.5 miles per gallon and as you can get over 50 mpg with one of them why worry, if you have a petrol you would loose 2.3 miles per gallon.
When its wet I just use mine to quick clear the windows then put the drivers window down about 1 inch and that keeps them clear, when its hot I just open the windows as soon as the punters have gone.
For those who have it and do not use it remember to run it for 15 mins a week or it will not work when you do need it.
To be correct any diesel engine will use less fuel than a petrol one I was using skoda and kia as an example, but they are good on fuel anyway

Moden aircon don't use any extra fuel, thats old hat from years ago, mines on permantly with temp control

I have heard on the Continent, Spain Cyprus, Malta, the taxi drivers charge extra for aircon on, if you request put aircon on, [they turn it off before you get in], something like =to 20p

mines on permanently and i still get good mpg. you'd be taking the pee to charge, especially if it benifits you to have it on as well.

If it uses nothing, run the damn thing with your engine off!
