I thought they had sorted this out, but spoke to a lad last week who had a similar problem.

Few weeks out of warrenty and the gear-box f***s up. Skoda wanted £1,700 incl vat for a recon box, but Bexhill gear-boxes will recon them for £550.

Skoda dealers = greedy b*******s.

Bigyin, was it the SDI or turbo one, if it was the SDI one they should have fitted the box from the 90bhp turbo, as there was a report in diesel car magazine that Skoda had informed all dealers to fit the turbo box in place of the SDI one

the dundee sdi,s had a lot of problems with gearboxes some replaced three within two years, the warranty covered most of them ,but i do remember one hired plate who had 80000 in the first year ,the gearbox packed up and he had no service history ,when told he would have to pay for it himself, he threatened legal action etc, two weeks later he paid up himsef, by credit card

I know of an 03 plate one that dropped a gearbox a couple of months ago and since then the car has had a love affair with the garage! Its since had a drive shaft. a gearbox another driveshaft, the steering has gone to pot etc etc etc. If Skoda are going to sell Octavia's as purpose built taxi's and advertise the same then they should be held responsible when things go wrong as they obviously are - the Supply of Goods and Services Act is there for a reason and I've personally returned an Octavia under the same despite being 16 months old and having covered some 140k! It you advertise it as a Taxi then expect it to live up to the miles we expect it to have!

The Skoda gearbox has an inbred fault, which is connected to the diff, part of the caseing inside the gearbox is riveted together, the rivets come loose and then the diff fails, there is a repair kit available to replace the rivets with bolts, make up your own mind why the bolts are not fitted from new.
