HELLO;
JUST PURCHASED NEW VW SHUTTLE LWB 104 DIESEL
HAD IT FOR ABOUT 12 DAYS NOW AND DONE 2K.
FROM VERY FIRST DAY I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM ON STARTING VEHICLE FROM COLD.
IT STARTS FINE BUT TICKS OVER LUMPY LIKE ITS MISSING FOR ABOUT 10 SECS OR SO AND WHEN I HIT ACCELERATOR I GET BLUE SMOKE FROM EXHAUST THEN IT CLEARS AND TICKS OVER AND RUNS FINE FOR THE DAY.
QUESTION...IS THIS NORMAL.
ALL OTHER DIESEL CARS I OWNED STARTED UP JUST FINE ?
BOOKED IT IN AT TRAFFORD PARK FOR EASTER HOLS TO FULLY CHECK IT OUT.
THEY DID A QUICK CHECK ON DIAGNOSTICS AND SAID NO FAULT SHOWING BUT WOULD START IT FROM COLD WHEN I LEAVE IT WITH THEM EASTER BREAK
ANY THOUGHTS ANYONE OR I AM I PETTING FOR NOWT ???

PS WHO ARE CABSANDBUSES
STRONG FEELING THEY ARE PART OF FOWLERS AS VW SAY THEY SUPPLIED VEHICLE TO CABKING

Take a look at cabsandbuses ad in phm then fowlers ad in phm, identical photos identical prices. To be avoided at all costs

CAPS LOCK ON / caps off

Sounds to me like a faulty or weak heater glow plug, try another session of pre heat before you start up, see what happens

Whilst it in at Trafford Park, get them to check out the water pump and any slight oil leaks around the cam belt area, these are known faults, know of 2 owners who have had the engine blown through these faults, but you have 3 years warranty, think.

Will ask them to check it out pte.
Already tried giving it 3 or 4 heats and still the same.
Was advised that as soon as the door opens on shuttle the glow plugs are being warmed in anticipation of an engine start
Booked in for 9th/10th april for overnight stay.
keep you posted.
Asked vw trafford park re cabsandbuses as they supply to them and they are indeed part of cabking and fowlers.
Hope sincerly they give better service than fowlers as I have some associates who have had absolutly nil aftercare service from fowlers

POINT OF INTEREST FOR ANYONE THINKING OF PURCHASING A SHUTTLE.
VW are running an offer at the moment of approx 20% off list price for taxi drivers on production of badge.
Initially cabsbuses wanted 21k off me from list price of £24700 .
but I bought for £19405
Short wheel base quoted at 19k exactly otr

I was discussing possible replacement vehicles with my garage recently and mentioned the VW the answer was don't touch it with a bargepole apparently they have a very bad reputation for reliability

no problems with my shuttle, had it 16 months now and runs fine, sounds like you have the 4 cylinder 5 speed model, don`t know what they are like, all the drivers around here have the 5 cylinder 6 speed models with no problems that I`m aware of. 20% off list prices for taxi drivers sounds like a good deal, even at full price they are a good deal, you get what you pay for.
