Alright folks?!

About to venture out in the big bad world of PH in glasgow next week. Just wondering what you guys have in terms of 'items' to hand in the car. i.e. big metal torch? Hammer ect?

I have been given an extending baton by a friend but i'm not sure of how legal it is. So what can or can't I have in the car?

Cheers

I would stick with the torch. It will be the easiest thing to explain why you have it in the car.

Oh I suspect you do.

The large torch is ok, but you must bear in mind that the more you have, the more the scum have got to hit you with.

TBH I would love for us to have some sort of spray, but that ain't never going to happen.

How about air freshner? Could we carry this to rid the car of bad odours once the tobbacco smell has gone. What about deodorant? we could carry that because with all this global warming we are bound to sweat a bit.

I think if a driver was going down that avenue then maybe hairspray would suit that bill.

Provided of course he is not as bald as a coot.

Don't get caught with that baton in your cab as you could loose your licence

Hi i agree i have a torch five cell maglite which i have used to good use on many occasions both in ph and hac over the years. And though it has bounced of a few neds it still works. But i will protect myself at all costs even down to pepper spray i have but havent used yet. And it sits on the inside at the door handle. And i have forgot it was there going through the tests and nobody has mentioned it was there, even enforcement checking my car never said to me.I No its risky if i had to use it. But it could be my life if i hesitate ,with some of the scumbags out there today.

A Nurse advised me that "Ralgex" is essential for taxi drivers who can have bad backs.

Be careful not to get it in your eyes, she said it would be very dangerous>

If you are caught with a baton (made offensive weapon) or a mace spray (still a firearm?) you'll get arrested.

Simple.

If you are not trained in they're use, you will take yourself out before your attacker, and still get done.

If the Police can show beyond reasonable doubt that the six cell maglite was intended for use as a weapon, the same as above.

My advice is don't carry anything. If you feel the job of PH is too dangerous, then don't do it, there are thousands of other jobs out there.

A cloth bag full of change is always handy. A 4 cell maglite is good also.

GBC its an unfortunate fact of life nowadays that practicly every job has a danger aspect, lets be honest the world is full of oddballs nowadays and you never know what walk of life your gonna meet them in so imo if someone wants to try and protect themselves then it should be their god given right to do so!!!!

Have you ever heard of the vicious circle? :?

I've worked in London which boasts one of the highest urban crime rates in Britain for many years.

I've managed just fine without any form of 'protection' during that time, I've never been assaulted, or had the taxi damaged by unlawful violence, nor ever received any 'serious' threats from any individuals, at any time.
I may benefit from having a crew cut, and stocky build, but i'm no WW Wrestler by any stretch of the imagination.

Perhaps my ability to communicate is more useful?

If you want to go 'tooled up' when you work, good luck, but luckily thats not the majority by a far cry.

Just remember that when the Police search your vehicle for whatever reason, and you find yourself justifying in court why you had a Police baton / CS Gas / Knife in your possesion, then you'll have to justify to yourself as to why you're enemployed with a criminal record for possesion of weapons. Not good reading even for a shelve stacking job at ASDA.
