| Post subject: | Has anyone tried "Diesel Power Tuning" |
http://www.dieselpowertuning.co.uk/index.php I ordered a VW Shuttle a couple of weeks ago. Then last week was watching an old '5th Gear' and saw Quenton Wilson raving about this box that goes onto your diesel injection system to improve economy. If I'd have seen it anywhere else, I'd have dismissed it.. But, Quenton is not know to be tollerant of 'twandle and popycock'! So, had a look on the website above to get more info. Basically, it's a (removable) box that listens to what the ECU wants from the injectors and then re-maps the info to the injectors to increase BHP (35bhp) and torque (80...whatevers). That means you can use the higher and more efficient gears. It's quoting an improvement in fuel efficiency of upto 16%. I phoned my insurance agent (Minibus+) and asked what the loading would be.. next day, got a call to say that so long as it was proffessionally fitted, no charge.... As it doesn't breach the sealed ECU, it doesn't effect warranty or insurance (I'm informed)... So, spoke to the local agent and for a cost of £400 inc, had it fitted. Should have recovered the cost within 6 months. Picking the VW up on Monday 1/9/08.. I'll keep you informed...... |

If you have had this fitted to a new vehicle that you have not driven before, how will you kmow if you are getting a better fuel consumption? |

Fantastic bargain Grandad.. The nice man on telly told me it was a good tool. So, I'll trust to his word. Didn't want to get the bus then take it off the road again for modifications... Apparently, the mechanics at Bernard Mansells have been taking turns test driving it to check the difference.. I'm going to be comparing it to my 109bhp vito which consistantly manages 26mpg. The vw is quoted in the region of 160bhp with between 29-45mpg. So, it'll seem brilliant anyway.. Looking for ward to Monday.. I'll let you know what I think next week.... |

Use BP diesel and you'll notice the difference in power and fuel economy. |

| Post subject: | DPT box |
Hi all, well tried the box and indeed it does boost the performance by a hige amount.. Unfortunatly, it also comes in like you've been kicked in the butt by an elephant and to date it has actually reduced efficiency by about 20%. Went to the garage and had it removed to draw a direct comparison. Straight away town driving is up from 22 to 26mpg and motorway is from 28 to 32mpg. Deliberatly drove the last few days 'enthusiasticly' to make sure it wasn't down to my foot. The garage is going to re-map the box to suit me... I'll let you know what happens next... |

| Post subject: | DPT Diesel Power Tuning IS CRAP |
Well, it's officially crap.. or at least the dtp recomended fitter I used is. In January, my VW came up with an engine failure warning light.. So I took it to the local dealership who discoverred that where the DTP fitter had spliced a connection, they hadn't weatherproofed the connection and so over the 5 months of rain and vibration, the signal wire had snapped. Went to the fitter who said the VW dealership were talking the 'biggest load of bollocks'! and he's a spanner monkey who should know bollocks when he says them....... Spoke with DPT directly who said it's nothing to do with them take it up with the fitter. SO MY VERDICT.. Never user DPT or Peter Hodge & Son of Northampton |

I've used one on my Skoda Superb for over a year now and am VERY pleased with it. Used to get about 39mpg from my 130HP TDI engine according to the trip computer....which now tells me I'm getting 44-45mpg on average. Not only that but the car is SO much smoother and easier to drive and if you happen to join a roundabout in 3rd instead of 1st ( which as a professional driver I of course would never do ) the engine does not suddenly stall on you with no warning, so it's a positive safety feature as well . It also passed it's emissions test recently on one run, after the usual sensible pre-test preparations of course. I would thoroughly recommend the DPT device. |
