Cab driver chased knifepoint robbers
THE hunt is on for two robbers who held up a taxi driver at knifepoint. The 27-year-old cabbie was flagged down by two men in Langley Road, Fratton, who asked to be taken to North End.
But as he headed towards Queens Road he was ordered to pull over. One of the men pulled out a knife and demanded his takings.
The driver, from Southsea, handed over about £100 before the pair leapt out of the taxi and ran off. The cabbie chased them for several minutes down Langley Road, Queens Road, Pink Road, Powerscourt Road, Drayton Road and Chichester Road.
There, the robbers turned and confronted the driver, punching him in the face. He persisted chasing them, but lost sight of them in Northbrook Close. It happened between 8pm and 8.20pm on Monday.
Detective Constable Pete Bambury, who is investigating, said: 'The driver was shaken up but managed to give us good descriptions. 'Someone must have seen the driver chasing the men.'
The man with the knife was white, about 25, 5ft 6in, and of a medium build with short hair. He wore shorts and a white T-shirt. The second man was white, about 35, and had black and white hair.
Anyone with information can contact Det Con Bambury at Fratton on 0845 045 45 45.
