I see the launch starts on Saturday.

The current basic Traveliner model on Fowlers website starts at twenty two grand.

I think it will be half as much again in Conditions of Fitness spec.

I still don't see what they are going to do about the LPH that are using Vito/Vaneo/Traveliner. My understanding is that they are prohibited from using the same vehicle.

I guess everything gets swept aside in the name of progress.

I was thinking that was the only condition a council might try and use in order to veto the application but we already have case law that states a hire sign is all that is required to distinguish between a taxi and a private vehicle. Under those circumstances I doubt the provinces will have a leg to stand on if they try and pull that one.

I'm more than pleased that drivers now have a greater choice of vehicle.

I truly cant see London taxi drivers accepting this model as it looks just too much like a Mini cab . No wonder they kept it secret. They lead us to believe it would be unique, how are the public supposed to tell the difference. between a merc cab or a mini cab.
Personally I believe its all part of TFL's Plan to integrate us all into a one tier service.
Were we not told that the PCO would never acept a vehicle with slidding doors?
Still the odd one here or there will keep our minds off the realy important issues. Well done TFL

I would think most drivers will welcome it.

It will make sure LTI keep their prices under control, it will allow an extra passenger into the car and it will allow drivers a choice at last.

And if at the end no-one buys the new motor then what have the drivers lost? I suggest nothing.

But I think it will be a success, and I expect all the trade press are looking forward to all that new advertising money.

That's a point. Because it's so many percent bigger outside, I wonder if the derisory livery money will go up. I suspect not.

As GBC said, I think it's a tad too big for hustling round town, but the airport faces will love it.

Apart from the size, it gives drivers and passengers a degree of comfort that LTI have so far failed to provide, it gives drivers the advantage of having a personal vehicle of some quality for family use it provides the ability to carry six passengers which in effect could create extra income albeit that it will be taking away a job for another cabby. Better fuel consumption combined with a partition for safety makes this vehicle very attractive. I hope it succeeds but will it be that successful that we exchange one monopoly for another?

Are you offering odds on that? I'll have £80 please.

I think the big illuminated sign with TAXI written on it might be a clue.
As I said to you on the moaners unite forum MrA, the public don't give two hoots what they get into, as long as it's got a safe driver, and gets them home.
I listned to similar reasoning in 1987 when the Metro appeared, 20 years on and it does'nt seem to suffer from any recognition problems, no more than the first TX's did in 1998.

How did the public cope back in the 1950's when there were Beardmores, Fx3's, Fx4's, Low Loaders . . . .

The conditions of fitness were changed a few years back to accept sliding doors.

If anyone goes along to this preview could you take a digital camera and take a few pics of the vehicle both inside and out including the dashboard, partition, interior, engine and luggage compartment and let us have a copy, please.

Regards

To the public there is no difference, just an antiquated system that does not benefit the user or most drivers.
