so the pedicabs get to use Duncombe place taxi rank when there is no room for motorised taxis at times, with buses, wagons, private cars sitting on the rank , i'm going to leave my engine running when one sits behind me

this is going to cause problems

bye the way who will be testing these bikes, certainly not the council bin wagon mechanics, suppose they will go to the "cycle workshops at one of the outlets, maybe Halfords bike dept will do the testing

Could someone remind me which bit of which act says a licensed taxi can only use certain ranks? :?

Methinks York are making it up as they go along. [-(

i have also heard that the pedicabs hackney cabs do not have to have meters fitted, the council are giving them fare charts, they say a meter cannot be fitted, some of you will remember the milometers that could be bought years ago and fitted to a push bike, didnt it run from the tyre rim or wheel centre

they the pedicabs have been reminded that they cannot refuse a job, the only exception will be if they feel too tired to work any longer

oh i forgot to add they will be allowed to advertise

Its going to be interesting to see how many applicants they get. 10 to be issued, will they get ten applicants? No doubt someone will get one to see if they get it transferred to a vehicle. Understand at the committee meeting it was mentioned they can also use the Piccadilly rank as no vehicles use it. Can't see 'em cycling out past the ring round. They'll just be used for our esteemed tourists to go into town from hotels and vice versa etc and then out to race course via Terry Avenue. You'll not get me in one though!! :-o :-o

Hi
Had the pedicabs in Newcastle for a while, there were 3 or 4 issued I think, just to work around the city centre. I did see 1 or 2 attempting to take 3 passengers to Jesmond a couple of times....about 2 miles.
Certainly kept the riders fit!
I can remember a student asking if the pedicab could go as far as Durham Uni....told him if he could afford to take 2/3 days to get there.....yes.
Don`t see them much now,I think they had problems getting riders,if you think times are hard for motorised taxis....try pedicabs. ONLY THE BRAVE. Good idea for tourists, but only if you can get the fit people to peddle them.
Good Luck.....I`ll stick to my motorised hack....
