cabbyman, my point was, would YOU be happy that your daughter/wife/GF/etc was left on a rainsoaked unlit street corner at 2am because the only vehicle she could see was a PH and not a hack?

No you can't!!!!!!!!

A PH Operator's Licence will have an address from which the operator will operate from.

An Operator's Licence cannot state the address of operation as 'No Fixed Abode'.

If the Operator's Licence states that the PH Operation's address is 10, Downing Street, the operator would be in contravention of the conditions of licence if he operated from Buckingham Palace instead!!!

I fully agree with your point but, in extremis, the cold legal facts would still apportion guilt and mitigate the penalty. My emotions would be irrelevant to the court.

Not a problem in areas that are de-restricted.

Your daughter/wife/girlfriend/civil partner could have her/his pick of Hackneys, TX1/2/4, Eurocabs colours as well.

Plenty of Hackneys to go round for everyone.

I can understand the point that at 2am, particularly early in the week, the only passing vehicle may well be PH, even in a de-restricted borough like ours.

Sometimes, as 'duty car', I may be the only car, HC or PHV, in the borough at that time of night.

but what if?

youd rather your cherished one hoof it home 20 miles in the dark/rain/etc than a PH pick her up?

I said PH Operator's Licence!!!!!

I did NOT say PH Driver's Licence nor PH Vehicle Licence!!!!!!

A PH Driver is not an operator!!!

There are three types of licence with Private Hire.

A PH driver's licence, a PH vehicle licence & a PH operator's licence.

If a licensed PH driver happens to also be the licenced PH operator, i.e. the PH Operator's Licence is in his name, then there are different conditions of licence for each licence.

And no, you can't take a booking in your car.
