They are just PVC decals. Easy to remove with a little help from the wife's hair drier :wink:

I have just had a thought, with all the parking regulations in force in London, and the present ranks being marked out for say 6 LTI cabs if 3 of the Merc's go on there would be only room for 2 LTI :lol: so they will have to make the ranks longer

Yesterday I saw a silver ComCab Merc and it didn't look like a cab.
I would have thought Mercedes would have followed M&O launch of the TX1 and make the first 100 on the road black ( to make them easier to identify for passengers and the trade).

Now the PCO has licensed a taxi which can also be licensed as a minicab,will the minicab trade get to licence a Fairway/TX ?

Surely these things work two ways....

The problem the PCO have is that the Merc met all the requirements of the COF? Shape has nothing whatsoever to do with it. If it had then LTI would have gone to court over it. We know what the conditions say but it has already been established in law that a "for hire" sign is all that is needed to distinguish a vehicle as a Taxi. However considering LTI vehicles are of a unique design the PCO do not license them as a private hire vehicle and they have the right to decide what is to be a private hire vehicle and oddly enough no one has ever gone to court to try and get one licensed as private hire.

The Wirral case is a good place to start in respect of hackney carriage vehicle licensing.

I listened to the same arguements when the Metrocab was introduced to the London market back in 1986 when I was on the Knowledge. I heard the same points regarding the new TX shape back in 1998.

I think you underestimate the publics ability to recognise a Taxi.

The Merc looks everybit like a Taxi as it has a rather large, and rather bright orange sign at the front which states TAXI.

If you go way back in time to the 1950's, how did the public cope with FX3's FX4's Bearmore's, Low loaders . . .

I think there will come a time in the next couple of years when the Merc will outnumber the remaining Metrocabs.

There was a Private Hire car version of the FX4 when it was first released, strangley enough there was'nt a big take up on it.

Because they looked completely different to cars and there was no mini cabs at that time!
