Isn't it interesting that you see the solution as restricting PHC.
This will never happen.
The real solution is in the professionalism of the hackney trade. Its ability to compete.
There again, only a real businessman would understand this.

Be a very Clever and Professional HC that can still get a single Customer after the Government makes him pay up to £1.30 Per Mile. this on top of £200 a year road tax and £1.30+ a Litre diesel. you would have a Travel cost of around £1.50 per mile even before Vehicle costs and profit Margins come into play, Add in these and the Very least you could charge is around £2.00 Per mile travelled by the Vehicle whether the Customers in it or not. So a Passenger trip of around 50 miles to a destination and a 50 mile return (empty) trip would in theory cost £200.00.
So Mr Professional HC driver...do you think there will be much call for Taxis at those kind of prices.
You couldnt even quote an accurate price of a Journey in advance as there would be different Zones of Pricing on different roads, this being compounded further by Different Charge rates at different times of day. you may well discover that youve done the run for Nowt by the time the Spy in the Sky sends you your monthly invoice. and guess who will be paying for that little black spy box In the back of your cab...You!!![/quote]
Perhaps the naive thing about this is that you only see the pricing as the problem.
I don't. Any increase in prices would be absorbed by inflation. And that may be the factor that ensures roads pricing will remain politically unpopular.
On the other hand, I see road pricing, spy-in-the-sky, as an infringement of civil liberties.
Does it not even begin to concern you that the government is putting systems in place, like this, ID card database etc., to monitor us and control us? Servant becomes the master.
Does this not concern you at all?
