The authorities within the County of Northumberland have been unified, as have the councils in the County of Durham .................. and perhaps elsewhere.

So its not a case of "if" you fruitcake .................

So the man who joined the fight to stop his council from dishing out contracts to adjoining authorities with "lower standards" is quite happy to see those same standards adhered to by people who can work at the same PH office as him.

It's the likes of you that don't want wholesale change to the statutes, so you reap what you sow.

It's currently legal to work the way they do, now that may change next month, but as of now it's 100% legal.

Wholesale change is not required to rectify this situation.

Just get back to the 1847 Act for HC and introduce the LPH Act for all PH.

That'll do.

Brilliant well thought out debate.

I may just start a office in Hove using Berwick HC ..................... wonder if I can get on the tender list for Brighton?

Brilliant well thought out debate.

Well if I have even the faintest clue as to what you mean by that waffle then I would gladly debate.

But I suspect even you don't. :?

You claim that the LPH Act is just the 1976 Act.

I believe that it contains the up to date wording and the consideration to modern working practices to make the legislation easier to understand, impliment and enforce.

The objectives of the LPH Act are the same as the objectives of the 1976 Act .............. and it is on that basis that you draw a comparison between the two. The fact remains that the consideration of the LPH Act includes up to date working practices and modern technology, something which you totally fail to acknowledge.

The 1847 Act has been challenged on how many occasions?
The 1976 Act has been challenged on how many occasions?

Even not taking into account the 129 year differance I think you will find that the answers to the above questions show that the 1976 Act has been legally challenged at least 5 times more than the 1847 Act.

Now you may well say "why adopt a Act which is so similar to the Act which has been challenged so many times" ...................... well the reason its been challenged is because of the wording of the Act and because it now has to be interpreted to fit the up to date working practices and technology. The LPH Act addresses those advances in technology and therefore working practices.

I find it strange that a group would call for National Standards without including the Nations capital city.

We then move onto the HC side .................. back to London ................ and the proclaimed "envy of the world" taxi service.
Surely the starting point for a National trade would be to increase the perception of the industry and the social standing of those involved in it.

National Standards therefore based upon the model that is the London Public Carriage Office.

Discuss.

I suspect the Criminal Justice act 2003 has been challenged thousands of times, your point?

Which group is that?

And point out to me where this group has said standards should be different outside of London to those inside of London?

IMO the only difference between London cab drivers and the vast majority of non London cab drivers is the three year knowledge. Is there any other difference?

So would you have non London cab drivers doing a three year knowledge? :?
