I remember last year seeing a documentary about the illegal plying for hire in Burningham, by private motorists and private hire vehicles, I was totally amazed, that sort of thing had been stamped out in Liverpool and where I am 10 years ago..... but it looks like it will be continuing in Birmingham with your council's blessing....ps.. and I did say almost.

Pat Murtagh, Birmingham’s representative on the National Private Hire Association, said: “From the perspective of safety and image, a uniform colour is a fantastic idea and I agree that it ought to be something easily recognisable."

“Some of the issues over age of vehicles will cause hardship to drivers."

“I will be making a case against making new cars compulsory because I don’t think it’s necessary and it would do little more than mean drivers would need a fare rise to cover the cost.”

Haven't seen this 'NPHA Birmingham rep???' for years; never shows her face, because she is too busy with Go-skills.

New PHV for new PHV licence I say!!!

Let the cull begin.

It's all about the will of the licensing committee, & the will of the Licensing & enforcement officers.

A new vehicle on first license for PHV.....and colour policy....both are insane ideas.

Primarily for fefeating the object of private hire.

Not quite the same....3 years and new, I mean a new TX is £34K + a 3 year old one??

A new Skoda Superb is £???? a three year old one £????

Perhaps you should look at what PH encapsulates....a HC is a HC.....a PH can be a minubus, Limo, Datsun, Lada Samara....different strokes for different folks....but all under the 'PH' title under the same license catering for different markets.

The idea of new PHV for new PHV licence is to put PH on a level playing field with HC, who have since 1996 had new HC for new HC licence.

It is also to stop the 40% annual turnover of drivers in the PH trade that flit in & out of the trade on a whim.

Our PHV plate numbers are in the 21,000's now, & that shows the problem.

There are too many seasonal cherry-pickers in the PH trade in Brum, & it screws it up for those that want to make it there full time job & living.
