These guys are asking for a solution. Can no -one think of a way round it?? I am thinking along the lines of a temporary freephone No. On a taxicall divert to the office till they sort it out. They could get free press coverage and a radio advert or something. Any one else?? A solution

The problem is all the landline cabling and exchanges are BTs, everyone else is working on the difference between wholesale and retail, when that margin doesnt give sufficient profit due to low sales/use, they cannot work

BT disconnect the the service (quite rightly) and the discount supplier ceases trading

its no different to any other business except BT often get the blame

Taxi bosses in Leyland are counting the cost after their phone lines were cut off.

Bury-based Global Telecoms and Technology has been wound up, leaving businesses which had phone accounts with them disconnected.

That includes a number of Lancashire taxi firms who say they have lost business because no-one can ring them.

Gary Wilson from 24/7 Taxis in Farington, Leyland, said he has not had a working phoneline since last Thursday.

He said: "It's absolutely crazy. When someone goes bang like that you can't just leave everyone in the lurch.

"They knew this was going to happen, why couldn't they have told us? I have 20 lads parked up doing nothing.

"Some of these people have got kids and mortgages to pay. They can't afford to be sitting around doing nothing."

BT have told Mr Wilson it will be 10 days before they can activate a new line for him.

Boss of Lostock Hall Taxis, Dave Baldwin, said he lost "the thick end of £2,000" last weekend with the problems, almost £1,000 on Saturday alone.

He said: "Last Friday at 8.30am we had no lines in and no lines out. I rang every single number I had for Global but there was just a recorded message."

Mr Baldwin added he had now managed to get his phone transferred to another line.

Reporters attempted to contact Global Telecoms and Technology via three listed phone numbers.

One line rang out and the other two went to a recorded message which said: "We are investigating large volumes of calls reporting major telephone service failures."

A mobile phone number for a business adviser at the firm was also switched off.
