I was reading the all new 'fastblacks' forum today and found this from the poster Bob Dewar:

Quote:
In London, as we all know, John Worboy who is a licensed black hack driver, has been accused of assulting a number of women, who should have been safe in a cab.
We also know, here in Edinburgh, our very own Mr Failor, reckons that there isn't enough cabs on our streets to keep women safe as they travel home after a night out. Have the events in London shot his theory into the dustbin once and for all?

Well Bob, he's one out of 25'000 licensed drivers, and one driver for the best part of 25 years who has been convicted of a sexual crime in a licensed London Taxi. In that time there must have been the best part of 100'000 drivers who have started and retired with an unblemished reputation.

During that time there has been dozens, if not hundreds of attacks commited by the alternatives, as in Minicab (PH) cars or pedal cycle rickshaws, so I'm struggling to see the connection between what The Skull or Jim say, and this one off attack in London?

Minicab attacks were so common at one stage, they hardly made the local newspaper, let alone the tv news.
The Mets own statistics still show 7 incidents a month, so hailing a licensed taxi is still the safest form of travel you'll get in London, I can't see how Edinburgh would differ?

More taxis at night will mean less opportunity for the predators to find a victim.

One of Worboys victims has given an interview with The Telegraph at:-
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... s-out.html

What is telling in the final paragraph,

"The worst part is that he was a black cab driver. If he had been a minicab driver I don't think there would have been a huge amount of surprise, but a black cab driver makes it so much worse."

i think you will find that his point was that more taxi does not stop these attacks in you own words you say "More taxis at night will mean less opportunity for the predators to find a victim." but nothing can stop these sickos which is sad and also IMO it shows that it's not just PH that can be accused of these types of attacks and as far as iam aware no PH or Taxi drivers are to blame for any of the attacks here

these attacks are very rare here as they are in your manor but some people have used this sad affair to forward there arguament

Mitigation of risk, Chipper.

One less is worth it.

De-restriction hasn't resolved these problems in Aberdeen though Gusmac have they, at least not by August last year.

Nor has it stopped Aberdeenshire Taxis operating in the City. :-o

Isn't it interesting that The Bob Dewars of this world would happily consign their own trade to the depths of depravity to protect his plate value.

By allying the black taxi trade with the misdemeanours of predators encouraging females to get into unlicensed vehicles isn't Mr Dewar betraying vested inetrest masquerading as confused thinking?

What happened in this isolated incident in London was unconscionable. But it bears no relation to what is happening in Edinburgh where the public is taking risks because it is widely known, and expected, that it is difficult to hail a cab during peak periods.

Now, the Scottish Government understands the problem. because its Best Practice document requires councils to take account of peak periods when determining numbers if they choose to maintain a policy of restriction.

For the first time, Halcrow are taking account of peak periods and December showed an unmet demand.

Having established this, the RC were duty bound to grant the licence application before them. That they did not shows that the council just make it up as they go along. Even when faced with incontrovertible proof, they still deny.

The reason? because the council has a policy to restrict. The RC does not have the power to buck the policy. What they did was buy time so that they could consider what to do.

The interesting thing is that this proves that applications being heard byu the RC are not being heard fairly, as required in Law. They are being heard by councillors who are biased to the policy, they are only programmed to refuse, that's not what the Act provides for.

Once again, CEC has broken the Law. If not the strict terms, certainly the spirit.

I think the term scumbag is particularly apposite when used here.

I'll tell you what Chip, why don't we make it easy for the perv.

Lets keep a cap on Taxi numbers, while allowing Ph to run amok?

Is it just me or doe's something sound very familiar :?

Now I've got it.

Why don't we sell plates for 40-50K to some numpty who doesn't know any better, while claiming there's "no significant unmet demand". Then the PH can then take up the slack, if the punters find themselves walking the streets looking for a cab.

There's definitely a plan forming here .. ..

What says you Chip?

Nothing will ever stop this completely. That is still no excuse to do nothing.
Maximising the amount of legitimate taxis available will minimise the opportunities available to chancers.

i agree that one less is better but i still belive thatt more taxi,s on the road will not stop the sicko's that are out there.

what about the guys who switch off there lights so they can get back in to town for what they hope will be a bigger fare.
where are the extra police on the streets
you seen that mobile cctv thing sitting about why is it not watching the hot spots for PH seagulling

you see there is a lot more that can be done to reduce and hopefully stop any future attacks like these but more taxis just on there own will not
