whats being fitted, a full BBC camera and unit?

im sure £200 would be enough to pay, hold on, is the fitting company on a council list/tendered/back hander?.....

We got ours fitted for £150 with a grant from the livabilty fund.

Tbh it is never about the drivers re safety, it is a smoke screen to make sure that the drivers are behaving and that they can keep an eye on them. One other thing or two to be careful of - will they be able to keep an eye on you/me as to how many hours you are working? or how many fares you have picked up? and who will have the power to insist on seeing a recording of your/mine journeys?

This could in many and more respects than one be used to spy on the driver.

Ironically today (yes bank hol Monday) a cam security company recommended by Cardiff Council got back to me and for a full package wanted £827, when I said that it was more than I would like to pay they said they could knock this that and the other off and that would bring it down to £748

They can't be used other than for what they are intended for, everything is held on a HD in the boot of the car, when you have an inncident you go to a Police station or the local CCTV control room, tell them the date and the time of the inncident and they get all the data from the HD, you are then given the HD back, it's locked in into the case in the boot of the car.

By law the recordings can only be kept, other than by the police, for 28 days. Then they are over written.

Most tax returns are returned about 12 to 18 months after the taxable work is generally done.

In many ways No, but what gets to me is the way that it is dressed up to suit the Councils without it costing them, and the inference on people doing the job properly. If you read the Council directive down here it is always about the safety of the public, never ever do they mention the safety of drivers.

No grants or funds being made available down here.

Is this not a freedom of choice issue? In Bolton a few tears ago a cctv system was hailed a great success by the council. The reason is simple, they had an interest financially. Once the free trial period was over it was ditched because it turned out to be just another call centre and it was expensive.
