Ok, only just clocked the reply to my last post.

My point is, a 20 yr old car is basically mechanically finished, imagine you rang a cab and some bloke turned up in a mid 80's Cavalier, complete with tatty interior and rust, maybe where you are the stock is newer, but the ones I see running about are old clapped out wrecks imo.

And if I don't reply to you within ten minutes it's probably because I've gone out to work, not because I have no answer.

May I suggest that you go to www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk and check out the Cadillacs up for sale, some are as old as 1932 in mint condition and pulling prices far in excess of new cars. Ask yourself which company invented the control system we use to this day ( clutch pedal left Brake pedal middle accelerator right ) and who invented the starter motor ( which up until its invention required the use of a starting handle ) or which company was the first to fit a night vision system in a car. Cadillac !

What most seem to miss is the simple fact that these cars are high end luxury cars that are built to last a whole lot longer than a standard lower end car, it didn't stop Maddona and Ali G riding in an 80's designed Lincoln Limo on their video ! Its not a fair comparison to place a Lincoln or a Cadillac in the same category as a Cavalier as they are built to different criteria to fit their respective markets, how any car is looked after is far more important than their age and yes, whilst we do have some tatty cars here we also have some excellent ones as well ( just like our own home market ).

That is a very bold statement, what facts are you basing it on? Just how many American cars have you actually inspected in detail to enable you to conclude that they are rubbish?

Some of the OLD american ones were rubbish in much the same way as our Morris Marina's, Hilman Minx, Austin Cambridge, etc  ( if you are talking small cars ) strange that most presidents around the world use Cadillacs ( if they are so bad as you say ) the old image of gas guzzlers still remains with those who have never tried the newer ones ( like Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear recently, who was blown away when he tried three )

your standard yank has soggy handling, less HP per ltr than a lawnmower and trim quality of a cheap Honk Kong souvenir, visit an american car centre and check the seats, headlining and switchgear,...... and i love yanks!

Top gear tried a corvette, a saleen mustang and a GT40, hardly run of the mill yanks and none ive seen stretched, and even then he commented on the corvette managing to have soggy but bone jarring ride, almost impossible!
