MANSFIELD - A Mansfield taxi driver was shot in the side by a man riding in her cab today at 1:58 a.m., according to a police report.

Sandra R. McCain, 33, of 93 Dale Ave., reportedly underwent surgery for her wound at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital this morning.

Before she did, McCain told police that she picked up two men in the 200 block of East First Street who wanted a ride fo the 300 block of Third Avenue. She said one of the men was wearing a red shirt and the other had a white shirt and white cap.

One reportedly held a gun against McCain and told her, “Give me everything you’ve got.’’

McCain told the man she didn’t have any money and that’s when she was shot. The men left her in the cab and fled the scene, she said.

Mansfield police Chief Phil Messer said, “She (McCain) was still in surgery this morning and I’m told she was expected to be O.K.’’

He said detectives are interviewing potential witnesses today.

No Nigel, its not your Mansfield. It's mansfield Ohio.

Best wishes
