Does the government care what it costs you & me, to provide a service to whoever in the community, in the manner that the government legislate for us to do?

NO THEY DON'T!!!

They're not predicting that the desertion from HC to PH in rural areas will be that high Mr Skippy41 ..... more like 80 - 90%.

But then over the last couple of years in Brum, we've been saying something very similar ..... that our council don't really want Hackneys around, because we are really hard work for the LO, whereas PH are quite simple.

If they make all PH 100% WAV I would confidently predict a 0% change from HC to PH.

, I predict a 97% reduction in rural areas of ph and hack saloons leaving next to none available, leaving loads of work for me
You know the idea is growing on me :D

Well I must have been reading different documents to everyone else.... it is my understanding that the Government want a hundred percent WAV fleet.[/
b]... and that the main reason for this is the problems they are having in getting areas that have saloon fleets to change to WAF [b]voluntary..... which are not cities by the way.... councils will be able to apply for a exemption... but this does not mean they will get one .... and their arguments will have to be impressive..... :P

So that in 99% of rural areas saloons would become PH, leaving next to no hacks available, due to the cost of the dam things, or to make sure that the 85% of the walking disabled population cannot obtain a cab from a rank

The Equality bill will repeal the DDA.

The equality bill will require all those offering a service to have WAV's......including PH.

In the interest of real equality will every man, woman and child In britain that needs to go somewhere have the right to have the use of Volunteer cars and drivers at 40p a mile...or taking equality one step further for that matter that we all work the same hours for the same wages and live in houses of similar sizes and get pensions of similar worth regardless of creed ,colour, ability or disability....

No we wont because equality as the government sees it is just for some and not for others.....whats so equal in having tax payers spend billions on mobility vehicles or on subsidising volunteer driven vehicles for the unfortunates who have disabilities and then have a struggling Taxi and PH trade having to spend further billions on highly expensive specialised WAV to transport those same unfortunates when they dont feel like using or cant access either the Volunteers or their Mobility cars or heavily subsidised public transport...This expense being compounded due to the fact that we are in the Midst of a recession.

Im not callous but its seems unfairly disproportionate to me that on top of all these things that the government demands they still expect forever more and more concessions for what is an already adequately provided for tiny section of the wheelchair using public....Im beginning to feel like we are some kind of evil in a witch hunt...persecuted for political ends.

I know that most companies here are starting to struggle, and most will have to replace there vehicles shortly but they are not getting the income to do that, Blood will be happy as one of them starts with P
there are many who bought saloons for under 1K and are now struggling
1 driver told me last night he started at 6PM and when I spoke to him at 2AM he had taken £28 and he gets a third of that
I told him he would be better off on benefits
then there's the price of fuel going up again at £110.9

Those councils will be able to apply for an exemption.

So are the disabled in rural areas less important than those in urban areas?
Or do they simply not have disabled people in rural areas?

Nope..just as many per head of population....but in a rural are there is no ranks for them to find a TAXI...they would have to pre book....and if they pre book then not every vehicle would need to be WAV..only the vehicle that was sent out to collect them would need to be a WAV if thats what they required...and theres enough WAVs going about to operate in such a manner...Simple

Not quite so simple though. Unless all or at least the vast majority are WAV, wheelchair users will have to wait longer than anyone else.
That means a substandard service and defeats the object of the exercise.

I agree, but there will be very good cases for many councils to apply, especially in those areas where the existing taxi fleet is in fact a PH fleet with a license to ply.

That said I do know one particular area where they will have no chance of changing the WAV rules, and it will be one almighty shock to those drivers.

Especially those leeches with five plates. :D
