I was driving through your area any area for argument sake, and someone seen my phone number and called me would I be in my right to stop and pick them up???, I say yes as I was called

I say you would pick them up.

I am of the opinion you should be in you're own licensing area when accepting a booking though.

Dont think it'd matter one Jot where you physically receive the booking from your Mobile....the signals probably bounced half way across the universe before it reaches you anyways..your mobile handpiece is just another 5 inches of plactic in the epic journey between the mouth of your caller and your ear of the microwave signal.

If they called my land-line number the call would come strait through to my mobile, so the call would have come from my area, sadly my 10 year old Nokia 6310i has not caught up yet with all the new gizmos that are now available, FFS I had only got rid of the tin cans not long before that

Proof again that technology has outstripped the archaic rules+regs which govern the trade

I could leave you all to f*ck about spouting b*llocks.......but there is a court case regarding this......well two cases.

So the Skippy Skoda goes zipping through town, and a pizzed punter notes his eleven digit phone number, commits it to memory, and then dials it, the phone rings in Skippy cab, and the punter says "I'm outside the Fox and Dragon pub" and Skippy will know exactly where to about turn to?

Possibly not?

Pizzed punters round here are incapable of telling you where they live, let alone using a mobile phone, so not gonna happen, is it?

Depends if your a Hackney or PH if your Hackney then yes if you are PH probably no but would you bother personally I would never stop to take a flagdown if I was out of my area because quite frankly I wouldn't have a clue where they wanted to go and I don't believe in taking work off the locals

Depends why he was driving through the area. If he was going to pick someone up, drop them off or returning to SB area having just dropped off, then it would be ok. Otherwise not.
Remember, Skippy is licensed under section 10 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982, not the English laws which most of you have to comply with.

21(1) If any person -

(a) operates, or permits the operation of, a taxi within an area in respect of which its operation requires to be but is not licensed or the driver
requires to be but is not licensed; or
(b) picks up passengers in, or permits passengers to be picked up by, a
private hire car within an area in respect of which its operation requires
to be but is not licensed or the driver requires to be but is not licensed, that person shall be guilty of an offence and liable, on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding £2,500.
(2) Subsection (1) above does not apply to the operation of a taxi or private hire car within an area in respect of which its operation or its driver is not licensed if the request for its hiring was received by its driver (otherwise than in a public place from the person to be conveyed in it, or a person acting on his behalf, for a journey beginning there and then) whilst -
(a) in the area or in that part thereof in respect of which its operation and
its driver are licensed;
(b) engaged on hire on a journey which began in that area or part or will
end there; or
(c) returning to that area or part immediately following completion of a
journey on hire.

16 In Section 75 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976
(saving for certain vehicles from requirements of Part II of that Act as to private hire vehicles), after subsection (2) there shall be inserted:-
“(2A) Where a vehicle is being used as a taxi or private hire car, paragraphs (a), (b) and (c) of section 46(1) of this Act shall not apply to the use or driving of the vehicle or the employment of a person to drive it if -
(a) a licence issued under section 10 of the Civic Government (Scotland)
Act 1982 for its use as a taxi or, as the case may be, private hire car is
then in force and,
(b) the driver holds a licence issued under section 13 of that Act for the
driving of taxis or, as the case may be, private hire cars.

In this subsection, ‘private hire car’ and ‘taxi’ have the same meaning as in sections 10 to 22 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982”.
