I had a strange one last night.

I switched my radio off to do some private work for family.

I was picking up from a club in Carlisle and outside waiting for my cousin when a 'new' driver passed me going round the block a further three times.

The driver was on the same circuit as me and a newly licensed HC driver.

Upon his forth lap I phoned my office and asked if there was a driver looking for this particular club, advising he'd passed my cab numerous times and his customers were waiting outside.

I waited another 5 minutes before my cousin and his wife arrived......the new HC driver never stopped and never got his passengers.

We have a knowledge test here, and bearing in mind we have had a number of complaints regarding this driver before about not knowing where places where, I have contacted the licensing department previously to ask them how he managed to pass a knowledge test.

I was accused of being racist.......strange, his customers from last night looked rather wet.

On a slightly different tact, the Racecourse is a £10 fare from Carlisle's rail station rank. The other week a customer got in the cab in front and then got out about 10 seconds later, he then got into my cab and asked to be taken to a certain part of town, with traffic the fare was £12.

I asked the passenger why the cab in front didn't take him.

He told me the driver said upon hearing of the passengers chosen destination......"No, No, racecourse only today boss"......I was accused of being racist on that one to.

Your first case would be dealt with internally in our company/circuit. That customers next call will now be to a competitor circuit. You could have been the next in line if that next job had come to your company.

In most circumstances< I have no problem with others turning down paying customers; I get a job and it also puts me 'mobile' and live on the radio circuit. One job from the rank can often lead to 2/3/4/etc. follow on radio jobs. Bring it on!

Maybe it is a licensing issue, and your council need to review things. But it's also a circuit issue and the boss needs to review things.

As for the ethnicity of the driver who is deemed to be acting iffy, who gives a monkeys, and only idiots should question your reasons for the complaints.

If they are valid then best they deal with it, if not, then so be it.

Call me old fashioned but I tend to believe a cab driver should know where he's going

I do too.

It's a shame 50'000 Minicab drivers in London don't.

'We want parity'

Could it be he had someone take the knowledge test for him, perhaps a family member who actually had the knowledge?

What happens up here is this:

One of them gets licensed, registers with a firm and hires a car. The car then gets treble-shifted with three of them doing eight-hour stints each. The car is essentially never off the road but for two of those stints it's not insured or licensed to carry passengers.

I can't understand how pointing out facts or asking for more information can be deemed as racist. Facts are facts; just because they might be true about non-whites doesn't make them racist or otherwise.

EDITED TO ADD

GBC, do you *ever* give it a rest?

You're like a broken f**king record.

So, no then.

More off-topic, chip-on-the-shoulder whining to follow?

...I forgot to add "Resorting to one liners"

You think rich people don't eat chips?

Stupid middle-class wannabe arse. I bet you have a big telly installed where people can see it from the street because people knowing you 'have money' is important to you.

Is the recession hurting you?

The sad thing is, all you've done since appearing on TDO is attack people with pointless arguements that hold as much substance as your average sive.

So like the others who ignore you, from now on you don't exist.

Besides, There's plenty of decent folks on here other than a religious bigot from Glasgow.

Enjoy. 8)

More straw man arguments (I'll let you look up what that means)

I don't attack anyone. It's a forum where opinions, sometimes frank ones, are exchanged. If you're too sensitive for even that perhaps you should stick to Reader's Digest or a nice cup of tea.

Could you point out the religious bigotry I've exhibited on here, please, or are you doing your sweeping generalisation thing again i.e. all Glaswegians are religious bigots?

It's the same round our way mate, many of the Asian drivers don't know where they are going, they are upping the price when they are doing the job, they are getting lost looking for addresses.

One morning last week one of them got sent on a job, 30 minutes later the radio op told him he was sat at the wrong Sherwood Street in the wrong town, he was running off Sat Nav    45 minutes later he's still not picked up, now this person has booked a cab for a certain time to go to work or something like that.

If they don't know where they are going they shouldn't be allowed to be a Taxi Driver.

Am I racist?? Dam yeah you could say so.

Agree or disagree...at least you've brought it back on topic Nigel. I was starting to wonder how on Earth this thread had turned into a "pen1s measuring competition"?! (I'll refrain from entering, as failure to even get through the qualifying rounds could leave me very depressed  )
