Taxi Driver Online

Just had a letter from our licensing lot saying this.

There are to be a number of amendments and additions to the "Terms and Conditions for Driver Operator and Vehicle Licensing".

The reasons for the introduction of these changes is the situation regarding over-ranking on the Taxi Rank.

Unnecesary obstruction on the public highway.
Contrevention of parking and waiting regulations, ie double yellow lines.
Danger caused to other road users by Hackney Carriage Vehsicles.

The Licensing team will be monitoring the situation by the use of evedence gathering from site visits, the towns CCTV the Police and Civil Parking Wardens. The Council intends to take a progressive approach to enfocement in respect of breaches of the above mentioned terms and conditions.

Proposed Changes To Conditions..

Page 38 paragraph 8.

This paragrap shall be replaced by the following.

Applicants who are unable to attend on a Thursday should contact the Licensing team to make alternative arrangements??????????????????? WTF.

Page 41 of the Terms and Conditions.

Condition 15

Paragraph 2 shall be replaced by the following:

If a rank, at the time is occupied by the full number of taxis authorised to occupy it, the driver of the hire vehicle must proceed to another rank.

The following paragraphs to be inserted.

At no time shall a driver of a hir vehicle cause the vehicle to stand on a road that is controlled by parking restrictions, whilst waiting for a space on a taxi rank to become avaliable.

The driver of a hire vehicle shall at all time comply with all waiting and parking restrictions and Regulations in force on any road. drivers hall not, at any time, wait on any road so as to cause any hazard, obstruction or inconvenince to other road users.


If the spelling is cr@p I've done it exactly how it came to me on a Council headed letter. These people are paid £20,000+ per year yet they can't spell.

Why not request they extend all the popular ranks? Then everything will be fine.

If they don't then request they tell you where to sit?

There's only one worth bothering with, as for the other 2 one has been took off us by the County Council, and the other one is the other side of town next to nothing.

When we ask them to extend the rank all the Council say is there's no room, space is at a premium. They cut the town in half 15 years ago and created a right mess, they've let ASDA get to big for their own good so they have a say in what goes off in the Town Centre.

I would like to know why none of this bullsh*t applies to buses.They over park opposite the council house all day long,sticking out onto a roundabout blocking the traffic and do any of the little Hitlers... sorry parking wardens ever threaten them with tickets?

If councils continue to issue licences like confetti then they should ensure there is A) a demand and B) sufficient rank spaces.

Buses have the ear of all the LA's.

Here in London they are driven by clowns from anywhere other than GB.

They constantly block junctions, drive like cnuts, swerve out in front of you, pull out to stop other vehicles from overtaking as one of their non english speaking mates drops off . .

If you can't get a job in London, you drive a Bus.

They do own the road Steve it's a fact. I hate bus drivers with a passion and long may that passion continue.

The buses here will stop at random on roundabouts to let other buses out. It of course depends if the bus they are letting out is the same company as theirs

The Buses out where I live in North Herts are driven by locals.

They don't really have any conflicts with other road users that I have seen.

In London they're driven by Africans, Bosnians and Afghans, and they bring their home country values with them, ie: Nothing.

All you see is constant aggresion from them. The best thing is, is when they cut up a Police Car, and the Police drag them out their little protected cabin and stick them on.

I try to get on well with local buses. I let them out and they let me out. After all we're both trying to do a job in the midst of rank amateurs and mums on school runs.

Let us, as professional drivers, show that we can rise above the stupidity of others.

I'm sure the new association will do their utmost do stop this ghastly deed, with a national association behind it.
