Anyone who gets in these death trap cars with these idiot rally driver young chavs needs their heads looking into , these so called " taxi " drivers have no respect for the road , the passengers they carry , or the pedestrians , if they think they can chat young women up then for most of the journey they do their best to get it on with you , i speak from previous experience , i would rather walk the whole distance than be allowed to be carried by these ( people ) come rain shine or snow
you pays your money , you takes your chance ! Sheryl Carr, Blythe Bridge

all you silly people that are on the taxi mans side are all losers and as sick as him for thinking he would get away with it... i hope the greasy haired scum bag gets bumed dailey!!!!! katie is my cousin and no matter what happens kate never desevred to lose her life for money... i wouldnt like to see someone go to prison for somet they havnt done he got guilty coz he is a found to be ...end of...and i hope he gets between 10 and 15 years .by rights if i had my way the scum of the earth should spend the rest of his days in prison... . rip katie bennet forever in our hearts!!! jay,, manchester

I'll say one word that would have sorted this situation out.

'Cameras'

He will have a year or two to think about that sensible suggestion.

Tributes To Taxi Death Mother

Saturday, 17th October, 2009

Miss Bennett had a two-year-old daughter Mia
"Part of everyone died the night Katie was taken from us," said the family of a woman who died falling out of a taxi.

Katie Bennett, 21, seriously injured her head tumbling from a cab near her home in New Chapel, Stoke-on-Trent. She died two days later on 26 May 2008.

The driver, Mohammed Qaddier, 31, from the city, was convicted on Thursday of causing death by dangerous driving.

"It has been a horrendous 17 months and many questions have been asked with no answers available", the family said.

Qaddier, who had pleaded not guilty at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, remains in custody awaiting sentencing.

Reason to live

The family said in a statement Miss Bennett's grandfather had suffered a heart attack and her grandmother's health had also deteriorated. They said it was linked to their granddaughter's death.

Miss Bennett had a two-year-old daughter called Mia.

Miss Bennett's mother said: "I have not only lost my daughter, I lost my best friend.

"Mia has lost her mum and that breaks my heart every day.

"As a family we will keep Katie's memory alive and I want Mia to know all about her mum.

"She gives us all joy and laughter and she gives me the reason to carry on with life."

The family also praised the Staffordshire Police liaison officer John Deeming for his support and their barrister Bob Price.

The comments on the newspaper website are quite disturbing if for no other reason than the opinion people have of taxi drivers. This is one story in one newspaper I wonder what kind of comments would appear if it was in national newspapers and commented on by a larger % of the population

Grieving mum's pain as cabbie is jailed for causing daughter's death

A 'GREEDY' taxi driver who tried to get more money out of his drunk passengers has been jailed for three years after one of them died in a fall from his moving cab.

Young mum-of-one Katie Bennett, pictured right, hit her head on the ground as Mohammed Qaddier drove off, and died two days later in hospital.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard an angry Qaddier, pictured left, had driven off after failing to get Katie's group to pay more for their Hanley to Newchapel fare on May 24 last year.

Now the 34-year-old, of Macclesfield Street, Burslem, has also been banned from driving for five years after being convicted of causing death by dangerous driving.

In a moving statement read to the court yesterday, Lesley Penney, who lived with her daughter in Newchapel, said: "Qaddier has caused so much pain to me and my family. People say it will get easier. Believe me, every day gets harder and harder.

"I gave birth to her. She shared my birthday. I do not celebrate it any more.

"I watched her grow into a lovely, caring young lady.

"She had a beautiful daughter Mia. Katie will not be here to see Mia's life and has missed out on her journey through life.

"My sentence started the night Katie was taken and it will end the day I die.

"Mia was also punished and will be for the rest of her life."

Eugene Hickey, defending Qaddier, said his client made a "gross error of judgment", which was entirely out of character.

Jailing Qaddier, Judge Paul Glenn said no sentence could compensate for the loss of 21-year-old Katie's life.

He told the defendant: "The whole incident arose, because you were greedy and seeking to take advantage of people who were drunk.

"The whole group had given you no cause for concern.

"You drove off in a temper, not in fear. I do not believe you made any checks at all.

"This was brief but dangerous driving with catastrophic consequences. On the evidence I have heard I am satisfied you did not know Katie was still in the taxi. But I am sure that you realised she had fallen from your vehicle.

"You did not intend to injure anyone. It was an accident. But it was avoidable and brought about by your conduct."

After the case, Mrs Penny said she was satisfied with the sentence.

She said: "It didn't matter what sentence he got, because we are living a life sentence every day.

"Whatever the judge gave him would never bring Katie back, and I accept that he didn't set out that night to hurt anyone."

[edited by admin] happens when you gang up on ppl and put there safety in jeopardy .
this is one time when it ended tragically for the perp imo when she lost her life.
we have all been in similar situations,i blame the police if they are anything like up here they refuse to do anything we even have the fiscal refusing to prosecute and the advocate general saying its ok not to pay, hardly surprising that [edited by admin] like this happens when you are afforded no protection, and then expected to look after the safety of some scumbag trying to rip you off and then damaging your motor and threatening your safety when you kick them out

That's not my interpretation of the article, Ali.

They were drunk but offered no trouble. The driver, I believe, attempted to charge them more than that to which he was entitled for the journey. When they refused, he lost his temper and drove off with the girl, presumably, half in and half out of the car.

If my interpretation is correct, we certainly don't want his sort in our trade. Do you want him up there?

well! my point is we don't know what happened and never will because the taxi driver has now been demonised because of her tragic death.
but! i find it unlikely that any reasonable person would do what was described(by any witnesses (her friends who were also in the cab),ive been in many a situation like this as im sure we all have,Ive handled it differently than he did,but he obviously panicked and didn't handle it to well.
however if we are to believe your version then he doesn't deserve to be free never mind be a cabbie, but as soon as she died he had no chance of a fair hearing the system was always gonna crucify him.

Sit down and prepare to be amazed.

I agree with you.

The police, courts, local authorities and decent public dont know half of the sh*t a cab driver has to put up with, and to be honest they dont actually want to know.

I agree again, more human crap doing what they do on every night of their pathetic existance.

The same crap that start fights in towns across Britain, but they're always the victims when it suits, usually when they loose the situation and come worst off.

A situation they start 99.999% of the time.

Any idea if the court report is available? Let's see what the evidence says.

Couldnt find it, but your right, perhaps we should look at the evidence before we give a view.
