Surely to start with it may appear non productive but as you grew in membership things would change. It's a shame to bend and break at the first hurdle so to speak :-|

I suspect if a PCO taxi driver filled in the form then it would be rude to reject him, but the point made about influence is valid.

One day perhaps.

Why? :?

Now I know there wouldn't be a flood from that particular section of the trade, maybe not even a trickle, but in my view the GMB should represent every one in the trade.

perhaps Addison Lee have bunged them a £100000 as well

On behalf of Terry Flanagan, London Region GMBPDB Branch Secretary

The question is asked why do we decline Hackney Carriage in the PCO area the answer is simple this divided workforce already at the time of the GMB Professional Drivers Branch formation had too many organisations representing them T&G LTDA LCDC and some smaller right wing inclined outfits. We took the decision that to enter that arena would be non productive for those that joined and us, not suprisingly we received many calls form Drivers requesting membership they admired our militancy and left wing stance.

We declined them all and suggested that Bob Crow of the RMT might be interested! it appears he was,

Not suprisingly our sick pay scheme attracted much attention and well in excess 200 PCO licensed cab drivers are members of it, they can access it by virtue of their wives membership of the GMB.

To sum up we believed that in that arena we would be unlikely to assert any major influence, due to its already fragmented situation.

I'll put it in more simple terms.

We don't want a left wing lunatic like Terry Flanagan, a Minicab driver, having anything to do with the London Licensed taxi trade.

There's the truth.

And thats why the RMT will always remain a minority.
