Taxi Driver Online

It's been a short while since the last time I worked a Saturday night, and it seems to be getting worse. At this rate there will be nothing left to fight over. I don't know how some of these guys are surviving. I've heard a few horror stories about guys going to the wall, but soon, if this keeps up, it will become, common place. It's no wonder drivers are leaving the trade. They may be the lucky ones.

I hate to think what it will be like at the start of next year.

C'mon SKULL isn't it just a case of demand being met? Times are hard for the Trade and i believe more Cabbies are turning out on a Saturday night doing the hours and if you look around there is more and more cabs still ranking up around 2ish meaning cabbies arn't making the money they set out to make, they have to stay out longer, the customer wins, this is what you and taylor want, the trade has achieved your goals without de-limitation ok with the help of the recession, give up your fight at least until there is the genuine levels of unmet demand of the past.

I think it is better for drivers at the moment as they Don't have the financial burden of finance, Radio dues and Maintenance cost's. As you have said yourself only the strong will survive, the Trade will level out.

What we need to do is concentrate on Seagulling by Private hire and East,Mid and west lothian Taxi drivers, This is the fight and the council have to act before some cabbies take the law in to their own hands, desperationn will kick in (not me) Assaults between cabbies will increase, professionalism will go out the window, this is my main gripe concerning de-limitation, de-limitation = desperation and we are getting a taste of what it would be like if demand was met 100%, sad but true

Oh I see Dougie, if a driver happens to pay some er*e like you up to and over £300 a week to rent a taxi, to meet a demand that doesn't exist, that's okay. However, if you want to own and operate your own Taxi, to meet that same non-existent demand, you don't like it.

Get a grip son, the drivers are no longer here to serve vested interests and their pretendy little worlds, recession or no recession that game is over.

That really was a lot of nonsense.

If you think stopping seagulling is going to make any significant difference then you are in a fantasy world.
seagulling goes on at the peak times on friday and saturday nights, the peak on a friday night into saturday is down to about an hour between 1 and 2 in the morning, outwith that time taxis are available on the city centre ranks, after 2am taxis are ranking outside the clubs.
There is not much to seagull anymore!

Jockeys are leaving because after their rentals and fuel there is not enough left to call a decent income.

Edinburgh taxis are moving to a situation of single shifted owner drivers, but I am sure you will be happy to do the big hours on your own.

Too many owners have taken the short term greed attitude to rentals, it has scared of the jockeys and it is now coming back to bite the owners on the bum.

When it comes to it owners don't have a choice as far as cost's go, cost's to owners only go up unless like me your FINANCE free, drivers though can force the cost of a rental down by refusing high rental cost's, shop around .

When i put a driver on my Taxi i can guarentee i won't be charging £300 but here is the Question What is a fair price for a 6 or 7 night rental with say City or Central? Airport, Waverley and haymarket permit included.

How much where you willing to pay for your Saturday night SKULL? and how much do you pay for your Day shift rental?, if it's too high why not try and HAGGLE

Let's postulate that most drivers are paying up to and over £300 a week, to rent a taxi. Now consider their outlay, plus fuel costs, and what it takes to justify this level of expenditure? How much should one earn when paying, let's say, £500 a week, for 72 hours in the saddle?


You did say this Chip, didn't you?


Perhaps, you could explain how a driver would be worse off driving his own Taxi?
