The arrest took place with handcuffs, IMO there was no need to use those handcuffs, the ACPO guidelines IMO weren't adhered too, thus the arrest was illegal.

Was there a good reason to believe the cab driver would try to escape? Leaving his cab behind, with his details no doubt inside?

Was there a reason to believe that taxi driver was going to be violent? Is it usual for the so-called best to be violent?

Guidelines are just that. A guide.

It's down to the individual officer to justify any force / restraint used to a court if called upon to do so.

The most passive individuals can turn into numptys if they're in the right mood, just like some taxi passengers can.

If you think someones going to struggle / escape / become violent, then the cufflinks go on.

So going with that, if a man murders his wife by throttling her, or vice versa, and he's passive when the Police arrive, if he's subsequently handcuffed . . . he walks away scott free as his arrest is unlawful?

You should apply to go out with your local force as an observer for a night. You'll learn that's not quite the case.

Thankfuly!

When you arrest someone, you deprive them of their liberty.
How that person is then restrained depends on a multitude of factors, even little old ladies who are a bit short in the marbles dept have been known to lash out.

A court will 99 times out of a 100 follow guidelines rather than not. Especially when they are written by the bosses.

The chances of the murderer doing a runner could be viewed as being quite high.

The chances of the cab driver doing a runner whilst leaving his cab behind are/were nil.

Independance Day

Due to the success of the recent demonstration in the Aldwych, the Administration team of the LTDF have decided to become totally independant of any trade organisation or association.
We believe the success of this demo was because it was supported by drivers from ALL trade organisations, and we would now like to build on this success.

In our view the way forward to ensure our trade survives is for all Taxi drivers, regardless of union or association, to unite.

We all share the same goals and objectives, and the only way we will achieve them is if we all stand together. (apart from craig!)

The LTDF will support anyone who we feel is moving in the right direction for the good of the Taxi trade.

The recent PCO Notice 15/10 issued just 2 days after our first demonstration in the Aldwych stated that all applications for new Satellite Offices will be suspended from 1st June until the consultation in August.

Although this is a positive move, we feel this falls way short of a solution to the trade's problems, and we will continue to fight for the future of the Licensed London Taxi trade.

We hope to see you all in the Aldwych on Wednesday at 3pm.

It's RMT through and through, always has been, always will be.

As one of the posters on the Clubs website said, there's more sensorship on there than there is in China. That's why you have a hardcore of around 34 RMT posters out of a potential 25000 taxi drivers.

It'll never change.

32", has been for over 20 years now.

Besides, I don't eat at St Johns Wood nowadays, I hear the RMT have a presence there.
