By denying drivers the right to their own taxi, you caused PH to increase to meet the demand the taxi trade denied even existed.

So answer me this..if the (what you and yer M8 call) tools of the Trade are openly accessible to all....why get a PH ???

if your into domination the WWW is full of sites to satisfy your're vice!!

Perhaps he chose PH because of cost, vehicle choice, the company he works for, can't fulfill the quality controls or even that he doesn't need the "businessman" illusion.

Not rocket science really. I'd have thought you'd have understood this

Perhaps Dundee's problems are that things are not as bad as we're being led to believe with the rants on this forum. Guys must be able to make some kind of a living or else they would have left the trade. That they aren't proves my case.

Agree with you there ! only problem is the PH's in Dundee seem to think they're HACKS !

And that's why we can't make money ! between the PH's and an LA whose (2002 survey is well and truly historic) still believing there is an unmet demand thus, pouring them on monthly plus, Dundee losing more jobs than a dyslexic English Teacher, and a dwindling population,

Why do think it wrong for the Trade to complain ?? We are all at loggerheads with our respective LA's regarding Trade issues.

Point is....Anybody who chooses PH before Hackney in a de-limited LA knows full well that it's the cut price, ducking and diving, side door entry !! :-k

I think you answered your own post later. PH exists because some opportunist see a way to get round the necessary safety controls because they can't/won't pass a knowledge test, can't/won't meet the requirements for a hack vehicle can't/wont pass the safety checks. It doesn't matter how easy to get or how many taxis you have, guys will try to circumvent the legitimate methods and then justify themselves. It is the lack of controls that attracts and makes it easy for the sexual predator or rip-off merchant to operate.
In Aberdeen PH have the same knowledge and vehicle tests as hacks and work through mixed PH/Hack offices. As a result we have very little trouble between hacks and PH. Anyone who meets the license requirements can put a ph or WAV on the road.
However there are still those who either blatantly put an unlicensed car on the road, or worse, license their cars in the Shire (who don't give a toss who or what they license) in order to screw the system

Dundee is only derestricted for those prepared to license the latest (and most expensive) WAVs.
Saloon Hacks are restricted, so is part of the WAV fleet.

Similar situation to Aberdeen, where one half of the fleet is restricted, plates have value and earn income for guys who have long since stopped working in the trade.
These plates are even passed down from father to son, perpetuating the inequality indefinitely.

The other half of the trade have to pay increased costs to compete.
Even with a knowledge test to pass, well over 200 choose to drive PH. Before the WAV policy there were about 3 PH.
All bar 2 hold the same badge as taxi drivers. The reduced income offsets the cost of running a WAV or hiring a saloon.
God knows how many we would have if no knowledge test were required.

Terror at knifepoint for Dundee taxi driver

A Dundee taxi driver has been robbed at knifepoint, it was revealed this afternoon (writes Katie Smyth).
Dougie Leitch, of Dundee Private Hire, also known as 203020, picked up the fare of three men, all believed to be in their early to mid 20s, in the city centre’s Union Street at 11.50 last night.
The men asked to be taken to Camperdown Park but, when the taxi was about 100 yards inside the main entrance, Mr Leitch felt something placed against his neck. The men then assaulted him and robbed him of his money before making off on foot.

Detective Sergeant Marc Lorente, of central division CID, said, “Mr Leitch was shocked but did not require medical attention.”

CID officers are now reviewing extensive CCTV footage of the route taken and have appealed for witnesses to come forward. The first man was wearing a white hooded top and was described as having “buck teeth” and ginger-blond curly hair.

The second man was wearing dark clothing and a dark hooded top, and the third man also wore a dark hooded top with the light-coloured number 59 or 69 on the front. He is described as having “thick lips”.

A woman who answered the door at Mr Leitch’s flat in Coldside said he was OK but did not want to say anything about his ordeal.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery, or who saw the three men either in the city centre or in the Camperdown area, should contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222. Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

* Dundee Private Hire owner David Young has offered a “substantial” reward for the capture of the knife-wielding robbers.

Mr Young said, “It’s absolutely scandalous in this day and age that this should happen, but it’s the world we live in.

“It’s the first time this has happened to us, though, and I hope the individuals responsible are caught as quickly as possible, not just for our drivers but for all drivers in the city.

“We are offering a substantial reward for anybody who can tell us or the police who was responsible for this and get them captured.”

The driver in the above story is to appear in court tommorrow on a charge of wasting police time. :?:

I am wondering if this has anything to do with him picking up illegally as is rumoured round the ranks.

If he was pirating that would be a completely different matter. Just because he was pirating doesn't mean the police wouldn't investigate if he was robbed at knife point. Chances are he perhaps wasn't robbed at all
