But Gareth Owens, director of Dragon Taxis and representing Premier and Tiger taxis said their clients did not want signs on the cars – as they are hired for their discreet service.

Do they ALL require a discreet service? What a silly argument.

You are right............what a silly argument!!!!!!!! Made to seem even sillier by virtue of the fact that most of their cars have "Dragon" stickers on the side of their vehicles advertising what they are!!!!!!!!!!! discreet!!!!!! :^o

Whether it's Father Jack or Father Christmas it matters not.

And what's dribbling got to do with hearing rape & shouting deregulate.

I'm PCO, and surprised the amount of times people try to flag me down, usually at night becuase they see that green roundel in the window. If I'm moving I usually just wave back and smile as if I know them, or if I'm appoached when stopped I just say I'm on my way to a pre-booked job around the corner.

There shouldn't be any visible markings on the outside of the vehicle saying it's a private hire vehicle, only something inside the vehicle which shows passenger's they're in a licenced phv, maybe a special tax disc holder or something?

No I disagree; you shouldn't talk about rape & deregulation in the same sentence.

It could get you into trouble!!

Mind you if you had put the word 'reasonably' before 'deregulate', then the whole meaning would have changed.

If there are no markings how the hell are the passengers suppose to know it's a PHV. It's a bit late once inside the vehicle of Mr Perv to discover you got in the wrong car

It's a PRIVATE HIRE CAR!!

The driver should ask for the passenger by name & not the other way round.

Then everyone is safe.

I dont like PH having any markings, however needs currently must.

Provided a LA uses discretion and recognises that certain PHV's are used for executive type hires etc.

No way. If I shouted out the passengers name the world and his wife would say "that's me". I always ask the passenger what their name is and if it's not what's on my data head they don't get past sticking their head through my window :D
