And you didn't answer the point about whether you were cherry picking your own shifts, Toots.

A classic case of 'do as Toots says, not as Toots does', to quote the phrase you (nearly) used the other day

Errm Toots is PH

She pays a radio rent each week to work the hours she pleases.

Strange how Caledonian Cabbie asks lots of questions and fails to answer any.

Nothing strange about that it's a classic case of 'do as I say and not as I do'

I tend to think he wants to prove that Wirrals deregulation has been proven to be an unwarranted success

Yes, and every forum member and their dog knew that, so what's your point, or don't you recognise the similarities between the two trades.

For a start, most taxis are on circuits, restricted or otherwise.

So are they allowed to cherry pick or not?

And how's your own cherry picking?

However does the public manage when you're on the golf course?

As I said, cherry picker extraordinaire.

Of course, I wouldn't mind, but it's they hypocrisy of the whole thing that's so blatant.

Perhaps in Captain Cab land, where he can't even remember what he wrote in his own magazine column

The fact is I've spent considerable time answering the points raised and indeed asking questions. It's called debate, but perhaps your one-sided magazine column has blinded you to that sort of thing.

Why is it "do as Toots says, not as Toots does". I've never said that anybody had to do anything :?

I go out when it suits me not necessarily when it's busiest. I'm lucky I don't have a mortgage to meet or a family to keep. Why would I work long hours if I don't need to?

Where's the inconsistancy in my actions and beliefs that make me a hypocrite :?

Well you've totally lost me here, Toots - perhaps I'm missing something but it seems that you're totally contradicting yourself.

How difficult do you want to make it for the public to get a taxi?

I would have credited you with the ability to understand that this is a problem associated with derestriction in many cases. When oversupply occurs, as it often does, earnings rates drop, so any shortage of taxis is transferred from peak periods to quiet periods, simply because drivers do not think it worthwhile going out when the earnings rate might drop to a pound an hour or so.

Surely you understand that?

While the public may benefit from an increased supply of taxis on busy nights, experience shows that those requiring a taxi at quiet times are then at risk. A classic case of whether any benefit of derestriction is justifiable in terms of overall public safety.

Ooops sorry didn't mean to make it seem like I was contradicting myself. I just meant that there are too many taxis competing for too little public demand. At the end of the day at busy periods you can get a taxi at any other time you'll be hard pressed. This puts the public at risk from the very thing the BPG is trying to prevent

So what about the likes of drivers in York paying £200 per week just for a plate, and then they have to pay for a car in addition to that?

And a couple of weeks ago I mentioned that the official figures had shown that there was no difference in accident rates between restricted and unrestricted areas.

Must be those massive rentals in restricted areas that's the problem.

I would think if you didn't earn the money to pay the rental you wouldn't do it, would you? Having said that you have already had my opinion regarding this kind of thing. Imo it's the law that is at fault not the fact that an area is restricted

Well I haven't got the court case, so perhaps you could be more specific?

Last time I read it it was on here. Do a search

Indeed, a total coincidence that the quote that Captain Cab keeps on repeating happens to come from a document by your council, out of hundreds in the country. A total coincidence, I agree

Yeah a coincidence. I didn't even know it was our council until CC said so

In a nutshell you're accusing drivers of cherrypicking by choosing the hours that they want to work, then you say you "go out when it suits me".

Cannae understand that - I think I might get a plate in the Wirral and work the so-called 'quiet times' - I'll make a fortune. \:D/
