Glasgow taxi crash man jumped into River Kelvin

A man who was knocked down by a taxi, then got up and jumped into a river in Glasgow's west end, has died.

Gerald Currie was struck by a black Hackney taxi as he ran across Bunhouse Road, next to the Kelvin Hall, at about 0105 BST on Monday.

He then got to his feet, ran off and jumped into the nearby River Kelvin.

The 38-year-old from Glasgow was taken to the nearby Western Infirmary but died a short time later. Police are appealing for witnesses.

A post-mortem examination will be held to establish the cause of Mr Currie's death.
