You're local Cash Convertor can easily sort you out with any denomination after you punt them the 3 mobiles and ipod you found over the course of the week !

about £50-£80 in £5 notes and £1 coins, I dont bother with small change, I find 99% of punters tell you to keep the change or at least square of to nearest £.

never start the day with less than a half tank of fuel.

As I'm based at Heathrow, and most of the jobs go into London, the average fare is about £40, depending where in London I go. Since fares are rounded to the nearest £1, I don't need to bother with silver.

So I start my float with 2 x £10 notes, and 4 x £5 notes (£40). I keep a few £1 coins in the car anyway, as any £1 coins I receive as part of the fare, I don't spend and just leave it in the car, most people round up to the nearest £5/£10 anyway.

The £40 total float is also handy, if I have a local hotel/long term car park job, where the minimum fare is £10, at least I'll have enough if they pay with a £50 note.

Also, being based at Heathrow, the float also includes, 1 x $20, 2 x $10 and 2 x $5 US dollar notes, and a selection of Euro notes, if the customer wishes to pay in Euros or Dollars. You'll be amazed by the amount of people who think Euros are legal tender in this country.

However, I often get through the day on just account/card jobs, so the float won't be needed anyway.

I fill up the tank at the beginning of every day, as (being based at Heathrow!) people will travel almost anywhere in the country, and I'll need enough fuel to cover the distance, if I need to pick them up in the terminal ASAP, I can't faff about buying fuel while they wait, or buy fuel whilst POB as it doesn't look professional. This also makes it easy to work out the next day how much fuel I used compared to my earnings the previous day.

I don't mind the Euros from Brum Airport (at my exchange rate), but I hate the Yankee Green-back, because they just think that the $ is king & in my book it ain't even a Jack.

What exchange rate do you charge for the Euro (& Dollar for that matter)?

Bank selling rate plus 10%, 15% or what?

I'm intrigued, because the bank buying rate is a distance away from their selling rate & you can get well stuffed if you're not careful.

I just round up as I see fit (to my advantage obviously), I haven't had any arguments over the fare, most of the time, the customer is appreciative that you take Euro/Dollars, legally I don't have to, and they usually round up too!

Obviously I have to take into account the bank rate is different from the tourist rate, but I haven't changed any of my dollars or Euros anyway, I keep it as emergency savings as you like.

Recently had a £200 fare, and the guy took out a big wad of brand new 100 Euro notes, it was in the middle of a residential area at almost midnight, no banks around, I'm not going to mess about looking for a cash point (not knowing if he had a bank card which works), or ringing the office (if there's anyone in, that is) to submit his credit card details (if he had one), I'm 100 or so miles from home, so I said I'll accept 250 Euros (knowing I had a 50 Euro note as change), and it was happily agreed. (250 Euros is about £215-£220)

And that's my point!!

The bank sell rate to the public might be that, BUT if you were to sell the €250 back to the bank at today's price you would get short of £200.
