Driver fined for illegal touting

A touting private hire driver has been hit with a huge bill.

A sixth private hire driver has been prosecuted for illegally plying for hire in Windsor by Slough Borough Council's licensing team, along with Thames Valley Police.

Muhammad Saleh, 53, from Church Street, Slough, was convicted at Bracknell Magistrates Court on Wednesday. He was fined £500, ordered to pay £1,200 costs to the council and a £15 victim surcharge.

Plying for hire is when private hire drivers take passengers without a prior booking made through a licensed private hire operator.

Rachael Rumney, senior licensing officer for the council, said: "We are determined to crack down on illegal touting of private hire drivers in the borough to protect the safety of the public."

This was a criminal court not a civil one.

If folks don't pay these bills they go to jail.

Totally agree - a poor post.

Is it??, if your stopped in a private car now, and you don't have insurance the vehicle is impounded and if you don't collect it within a certain time its crushed, the same thing should happen if you tout in a PH

I think Sussex needs to explain in words of one syllable our objections to your post.....

They go to jail. For a weekend, maybe.
