Taxi driver has jaw broken in vicious attack
A taxi driver had his jaw broken by a thug who refused to pay his fare.
The 40-year-old male taxi driver was dropping off his customer in White Hart Lane near the Wicor Mill pub in Portchester at about 3.10am on Saturday when the attack took place. The man refused to pay the fare of just over £20, and then assaulted the driver by punching him several times.
The victim's jaw was fractured in the assault, which will require surgery at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Portsmouth. The suspect ran off in the direction of Foxbury Grove. He was white, in his mid-20s, about 5ft 10ins, of medium build with fair or ginger gelled hair. He wore a white top and trainers.
Detective Constable Pete Lavin said: 'Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed this incident, or saw or heard anything. 'The area would have been quiet with few people around. This was a nasty assault and we are very keen to track down the man responsible as quickly as possible.
'A man, believed to live nearby and bare-chested as if ready for bed, flagged the taxi driver down after the incident and asked the driver if he was ok. It is important we trace this good Samaritan, as he may have vital information in relation to this assault.'
