I agree but it won't stop them

Well Spaceinvader1, I have no doubt that you have also seen PH using the phone. I'm sure you have never exceeded the speed limit by a whole mile per hour. Taxi and PH never fail to use indicators. I could go on.

By the way, is it more - or less - illegal, to have a video device such as a Sat Nav or datahead in a vehicle, as against a mobile phone, in your opinion?

What I'm getting at is we all bend the rules on the road. In my own opinion mobile phones should be banned for drivers in vehicles, even with hands free technology. I do support simplex radio, I would even support hands free phones if they converted the phone to simplex. Even the Police are only allowed simplex - duplex is simply too dangerous.

I see some private hire still using handheld phones yes, which upsets me.There is an asian lives opposite me and I have seen him driving his private hire vehicle many a time while on his handheld phone, with his wife and childern in the car too.It upsets me seeing the public texting in traffic jams, texting on the M25 driving at 60-70 mph and police braking speed limits by 20-30mph without the blue lights on then giving out speeding tickets for offences they make daily.

Just one of my pet hates. Many drivers feel too safe behind the wheel and get lazy.Addison Lee may use the bus lanes on the M4 that they shouldnt use but the black cabs shouldnt be using their phones next to their ears either.

I'm not sure everyone on here is anti AL, but the owners do themselves no favours by supporting illegal activities.

They seem to have good vehicles, they seem to have good customers, and their drivers look smart.

So why do they have to act like tw**s at times? :?

I don't think it is tbh. I think it stops the thread turning into an arguement just about the use of bus lanes. There are more things to be said about AL than the fact their drivers use bus lanes. We know they do and we know they shouldn't. Lets hear what else people have to say about AL :D

Felt like the M4 bus lanes had been covered in full in the past, wanted some new discussions presented which have been. Its obviously an interesting subject topic, the bosses seem to be above the "petty laws" cos of their wealth and success and friends in the right places.Looks like they had foresight or inside knowledge that the bus lane was going thats why they encouraged the drivers to use it,prosecutions were ignored as it was going soon anyhow.

CC - something on which we agree.

The reason is that, AL like many PH operators, have found a way to avoid employment laws and so cream off a huge profit by using a form of slavery.

Or so I am led to believe.

you say that like its a bad thing

are they any different to any other circuit?

Good value?

More expensive than a real taxi to all the airports and beyond.

Newish vehicles? With how much leg room? With access for wheelchairs?

Smart drivers? A newly arrived immigrant in a Macro suit with a Sat Nav? Aye, that's smart all right. Shame they don't have a clue where they're going, and have trouble conversing with the punters in English.

Good web site? Yeah, they do. :D

And don't worry about the illegal use of the M4 Bus Lane, they just use the hard shoulder now.

"Good value?
More expensive than a real taxi to all the airports and beyond."

They "claim" to be 35% cheaper than a black cab-are they telling porkies on the website??

"Newish vehicles? With how much leg room? With access for wheelchairs?"

They have mercs on their website for sale 3 years old, seem to keep their executive vehicles under 3 years old. Also their ford galaxy vehicles seem to be under 3 years old too,all the ones i see driving around are. They dont appear to offer a wheelchair service but with thousands of txs around,do they need to??

"Smart drivers? A newly arrived immigrant in a Macro suit with a Sat Nav? Aye, that's smart all right. Shame they don't have a clue where they're going, and have trouble conversing with the punters in English."

Some appear foreign yes,but i see loads of their drivers at heathrow and many are white british and converse in good english.

Good web site? Yeah, they do.

The company must be doing something right if all these FT100 companies are using them, remember if the drivers are that bad it will lose them business with clients.

I have met both father and son Griffin and you could say they 'have an air of arrogance and are slow in demonstrating any respect for their competitors'.

What I do know is that they are successful and identified a market sooner than almost anyone else and then went after it in an aggressive (competitive, not physical) manner.

Yes they have 'tested' the licensing regime but lets remember that for 25 years they were excluded from licensing completely.

Many of my clients tell me how good they find AddiLee's service. Apparently if you come out of Emirates Stadium after a game you will see well over a hundred all lined up.

I think a lot of the competitors 'dislike' is simply jealousy.

The manner in which they remunerate their drivers seems very complicated and they can clearly afford to be dominant in that relationship because they have high volumes of work to distribute. I don't believe they are doing anything that other PH operators can't be found doing in any other city in the UK.

Addison Lee do have wheelchair accessible vehicles, they use modified Ford Galaxies with a ramp at the back, and a distinctive silver stripe around the car, distinguishing itself as a wheelchair accessible vehicle, they are rare though, and I've only seen a few of them.

Besides Addison Lee keep a lot of car wash places around London in employment as they take out contracts with them to get their cars washed, and the one I use near Heathrow (5 mins from T1-3) has an Addison Lee contract, and because of the amount of AL driver's there using the car wash (lots!), they've also got a cafe (a good one as well - and it can be busy in there),toilets, and parking which I'm free to use whenever I'm waiting for a job at the airport.
