I am looking for a list of vehicles that have been converted to carry wheelchairs and been approved.
The reason is that at the moment my licencing officer is refusing to grant a PH licence for my Renault Master minibus that has been converted to be wheelchair accesable because it is 7 years old and we have a 6 year age limit at first registration other than in exceptional circumstances and save for purpose built vehicles and conversions approved by the public carriage office.
My original argument was that this vehicle was purposly built to accept wheelchairs otherwise, how did the wheelchair lift get there? The council have rejected this argument so I want to explore the conversions approved by the PCO route.

As far as I know, the only conversion approved for hackney use by the PCO is the merc vito. The others are purpose builts like the TX, metrocab and fairway.

Anything with wheels seems to be ok for private hire use.
If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will say so.

Thank you both for your help so far.
I have sent an email to the PCO asking them for clarification for my particular vehicle.
What I particulaly need is a definative reply from them in writing saying if the vehicle is acceptable. Or a general statement that any wheelchair accesable vehicle is acceptable regardless of age.

Can't see you getting far with the PCO grandad.

The WAV approved HCs still have to manage the turning circle, thus it's the LTI, Metro or the Vito with the steering back wheels. I think.

I doubt if they have any wheelchair spec for PH.

Didn't they licence a motorbike as PH, or was that in the sticks?

That is for hackney. I am talking about private hire.

That is the bit that I am trying to establish. I can't find any reference to any vehicles that the PCO wont licence as private hire, wheelchair accesable or not. My licensing officer states that for her to licence my vehicle, it must be on this non existant list.
I have emailed the PCO to ask them if my vehicle is suitable and I have also emailed our licencing officer to ask her to provide me with the list.

Three companies have motorbikes as PH in London as far as I know (Virgin Limobike, Addison Lee and Taxybike), there was something about this some time ago, I think the PCO wouldn't license them but they got an exemption or they managed to find a way round it.

I think any wheelchair accessible vehicle is ok, regardless of age, as mentioned in that document, as long as the lift and everything works and nothing protrudes or is dangerous then it should be fine. I've seen quite a few Renault Masters, and Transits with PCO stickers with wheelchair lifts.
