sorry, I lost it there. I'm in Scotland not America. Come back when cabulous.co.uk is up and running. meanwhile, zzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm well aware that you are in Scotland, that's why I posted this under the Scottish section. Call me crazy but I thought it might be a sensible idea to undertake a bit of market research before I spend thousands and thousands of pounds to set up all the systems for this app.

Before I get to that stage I simply want to get your general thoughts on Cabulous and see if it is something that you would use. Suggestions that I can go back to the programmers with to make changes would also be welcome.

Sorry but  An Edinburgh Black cab company has already beaten you to it

A wise move.

I think in 20 years time you might have built up a large base of drivers and customers, but how much it's going to cost you till then, who knows?

The problem you will get is that when it's busy no driver is going to pay for work when there's bundles of it for free, and when it's quiet I think people will walk to a rank or use a free phone.

I know the company you mean and the despatch software company they use, Cordic, have developed the app to integrate with their systems.

I guess I'm looking at it more from a passenger point of view in that it would be much better to have a single app that you can use to hail all the taxis in your city and if you go anywhere else in the UK then you can still use the same app to hail a taxi in the area you are in. To me, as an end user, this seems a lot better than having a different app for every taxi company you want to use, all with very different user interfaces.

Again from my perspective as a passenger, I just thought this was a brilliant app and one that I would use over phoning. But if it doesn't strike a chord with the drivers then there wouldn't be much point because all the passenger will see is a map with no taxis to hail!

I would also guess that the time when a punter would want to use such an app would be when the can't get a flag down because it is very busy and likewise drivers will be to busy to answer the system.

what i struggle to understand is what is the applications target market?

there are two types of vehicle owner

1. Independent (like me) small fleet or even 1 vehicle
2. Circuit vehicles renting a radio/datapak

the larger of these is "2" and your system would fragment/threaten the business renting the radio/datapack to each vehicle, if I was renting radios to owners and saw one had your cabulous system id tell em if they aint happy they should leave.....

My son lost his yesterday. It is probably up for sale by now. Keep your ears open and it may come your way. Failing that, have a word with some drug users and I am sure one of them may be able to put one your way for a small fee.
