There are umpteen threads on here where it is mentioned about drivers working excesive hours and eating greasy food. Sitting behind the wheel and not getting any proper exercise and poor diet are two of the main contributors of people getting type 2 diabetes.

Well thats not the lifestyle thats lead by Taxi drivers that I know, quite the opposite in fact.

We even have days off and Gyms down in London.

That is great and long may drivers in London continue in that way. They should live a good and long life. However there are still plenty in other areas who just sit on the ranks for stupid numbers of hours and do nothing. There are a few in my area who have been in the game for years and are so set in their ways that theycouldn't do anything other than sit in their cars all day and then most nights as well regardless of the available work. In my opinion it should be about working smarter and not longer.

Hi Wannabeeahack

I didn't like the fact I couldnt help you so I have been speaking to quite a number of companies and I have found a company that would provide cover and having type 2 diabetes will not go against you and upto a claim period of no more than 2 years,

eg - it would pay out if you were sick upto 2 years - but then if you had to claim for something different later on - then this is ok too

Please get in touch if you would like some quotes etc as I'd need some more info -

I'll leave this with you

Regards

Richard

I can't emphasise enough the importance of having Personal Sickness / Accident cover for Taxi Drivers.

During my time I've had some right companies get in touch with me regarding Personal Accident and Sickness Cover one being Combined Insurance Company Of America, avoid these at all costs.

Richard came to see me yesterday to drop me some leaflets off and sign me up for Bills and Things. Now when it comes to insurance I like to be clued up and look at the small print and weigh up the pro's and cons. With the Company Richard deals with if you answer all questions correctly there'll be no problems.

I've also asked Richard about some extra life cover which he's kindly sorting out me.

Like I've mentioned above, the importance of Accident / Sickness in this trade must come number 1 at the top of any drivers priority list.
