Now, the council will maintain that he has a right to investigate in his capacity as a police officer and cab inspector.

Don't allow him to Any investigation he conducts is not independent. It is tainted by his role to stick cabbies in and make complaints, much of which are trivial. He operates to no discernible benchmarks or at least, if he does, they are set so low as to be oppressive.

If any investigation is required, and there is a need to comply in order not to be seen to be hindering the cops in the performance of their duty, then ensure that such investigation is conducted by an officer not associated with the taxi trade. And then it's name rank and serial number only, say nowt, and if required, conduct any interview with your lawyer in attendance. The Tulliallan boys will attempt to intimidate you into building any case for them, use what you say against you.

And be prepared from the outset to make formal complaint about any officer's conduct.

Cops in Lothian and Borders are not to be trusted. They are programmed to do you down and they will use every trick in the book to do so.

Contrary to what they would have you believe, we don't have a police service, we have a police FORCE.

That is my very real experience. That is reality.

Just a reminder also, the cops will not protect us as we do our difficult jobs. Assaults, violence against the vehicle, fare dodgers, they are not interested.

Anyone not paying is interpreted by cops and fiscals as a civil matter. I warned the Chief Constable what would ultimately happen. We now have a guy in jail because of a fare dodger. The Chief Constable, by ignoring the warning, is personally responsible for this. This guy is in jail because of this Chief Constable's incompetence.
