Just to let everyone know there is a taxi app which does all of the things discussed - it is already working in the uk - called TaxiZapp - its on the iphone

If drivers have to pay then it wont happen.

I know that throws a spanner in the business plan, but that's the way it is.

They dont have to pay at the moment - all drivers receive free credits on sign up - and credits refund if no work.

There are already drivers signed up and showing willingness to pay - many are prepared to pay for an alternative to sitting on a rank or burning up their fuel travelling the street plying for hire.

Unlike some organisations - radio cab type operations for taxi drivers the cost is low - its pay as you go so you only pay when you want to work and get work.

Available nationally passengers will use the app when they travel to different areas.

It will not suit all drivers nor all passengers - it provides an option for those who wish it.

For those interested it costs absolutely nothing to download and take a look - who knows - you may even like it!

Do you mean too much competition from other apps?

If so name me a similar one which is actually up and running in the UK which is national?

I know a couple of firms who are trying to run their own but they are only appealing to their existing market.

There are alot of apps which allow you to find a company near you and call them -

This is nothing like those.

If you mean competition from there being lots of taxis - yes you are right - there are lots out there - anything that makes you a little bit different from the mob is a help... can help save you some money by you not having to drive around to ply for trade or sit in order on a rank - the punters find you quickly - and they know its safe cos they get your details and you get theres.

National Vs Regional Apps say's it all really

Marketing a regional Apps is much cheaper than a national apps, less risk's

The reason Taxi Markets work and different licence requirements are needed is because of Local Knowledge, i feel customers will alway's go with Local knowledge over un-proven knowledge of the individual markets that make up yes a very lucrative market, it's your gamble mate i'm only offering an opinion, Our Apps is successful because of local word of mouth, this wins in my opinion hands down

Just to clear up a few points.

The App will work anywhere in GB (indeed the world) - it is technically capable of this.

What I meant by a national app was that passengers would only require one app on their phone to be able to find a taxi wherever they go in the UK.

The app finds them the nearest driver to the location where they wish to book. (Obviously if, at the start, they are in an area where a driver is using the app)

The driver they are booking with will then be a local driver to that area - who has the local knowledge.

The benefit to the driver is that if I as a passenger travel from London to Birmingham for work - take train, bus etc - I will not know the local numbers to call - nor where the rank is. Want to avoid clip board johnnies and get me a proper taxi not an illegal one

In this case I use Taxizapp to book - it knows my location and puts me in touch with nearest licenced taxi driver - I dont have to worry - I get their details so I feel safe - taxi driver gets mine also. Once a driver takes the job I watch them come to me on the map.

A driver can set the radius in which they are willing to accept work so they will not get jobs outside the area they wish to go.

As I said it wont be for everyone but it offers an alternative to what is currently out there.....

We are finding the safety aspect appeals to woman passengers and the younger passengers (who take a lot of taxis for social life) like using apps in general
