After a further enquiry as to whether all their drivers are fully licensed taxi/ph drivers this is their reply:-

Hi Karen,
Thanks for your email, we can confirm all our drivers are working under the framework of the Department of Transport and we have carried out all the relevant checks including CRB and references. We started the project last May and our aim was to provide females in our communities an alternate method of transportation bringing back peace of mind and assurance. However, after contacting our local authority we were faced with many barriers such as sex discrimination along with being informed local taxi firms are not wanting a service such as ours in the area. The council clearly stated that they would have many complaints from local taxi firms that are run by the male majority and subsequently felt it was not in their interest to support such a service. We were left no option but to change our business model and commence the project as a community transport service for females. After being vetted we have now been permitted by The Department of Transport and are working under there framework. We would have liked our local authority to understand the importance of such a service, especially after both the MP Steve Baker and the Mayor supported the launch of Ladies A Like in High Wycombe. Despite the lack of support for such an important alternate method of transportation for females locally we are as determined as ever to continue our hard work allowing many more females to benefit from such a unique service. We hope this has answered your questions and hope you can come on board as a valued member of Ladies A Like. Should you have any further queries, please do email back.
Kind Regards
Ladies A Like
