Linda fighting to get her dog back in taxi

A Ludlow taxi driver who was banned from carrying her four-legged friend in her cab is taking the district council to court to get the decision overturned.

Linda Hughes, who lives in Ludlow and drives for Ludlovian Taxis, was told earlier this year that her German Shepherd Anna Cassandra IV was no longer allowed to travel with her.

The district council's licensing committee decided that no taxi driver should carry a pet, in case passengers were put in danger. But today Miss Hughes said she had so far spent £3,000 on a legal battle to overturn the decision.

She said: "On January 24, 25 and 26 I will be at Ludlow Magistrates Court and I intend to try and overturn the ruling during a lengthy licensing hearing.

Miss Hughes added that 1,000 people had signed a petition in support of Anna being allowed back in her cab and a further 25 people had written letters of support.

Driver fights taxi dog ban
By Simon Alton

A Ludlow taxi driver who was banned from carrying her four-legged friend in her car told a court today that she might quit the profession unless her pet Anna Cassandra IV is allowed to travel with her.

Linda Hughes told the appeal hearing at Ludlow Magistrates Court that her white German shepherd was like a child to her and that she was angry at the order against animals.

Miss Hughes, 47 of Wheatcommon Lane, in Ashford Bowdler, said she could not understand South Shropshire District Council's decision to ban her dog from her private hire car.

She said: "When I heard about the ban it made me quite angry because I didn't see why there should suddenly be an order against animals."

Miss Hughes, who is supported by a petition signed by more than 1,000 people, has taken the district council to court in a bid to overturn an order banning all local taxi drivers from carrying domestic animals in their cabs.

The ban was introduced last year after the council said it feared taxi drivers could carry dogs, cats and other animals - which could turn on passengers and possibly injure them.

The hearing continues.

continued from earlier in the month

Not a happy dog woman.

The Ludlow taxi driver who lost her appeal against a council decision to ban her pet dog Anna IV from her cab may take her fight to the European Court of Human Rights.

Linda Hughes, who lives in Ludlow, said she was bitterly disappointed that a hearing at Ludlow Magistrates Court had rejected her bid to allow Anna IV in her cab.

Miss Hughes was banned along with all other taxi and private hire car drivers last year by South Shropshire District Council's licensing committee from taking her pet in her car.

The council imposed the ban amid fears animals could attack passengers or damage luggage.

Today Miss Hughes said she was considering the next step in her fight against the ruling and had not ruled out making a bid to the European Court of Human Rights.

But look at the size of the bloody dog.

Not long now !!!

It really makes me wonder.

Europe awakened in 1945 after years of war and millions of deaths, it awakened and decided free trade would cease wars between the neighbouring states. While not wanting to give a history lesson about the British favoured EFTA organisation, and the French favoured common market, eventually a european court was decided to offer justice to member states.

Now enter the mad dog woman.

The thing is, this country is so bolloxed, she'll probably get a band of solicitors fighting her corner.

regards

Captain cab
