Suburban (Yellow Badge) drivers are being capped!

http://www.taxinewspaper.co.uk/downloads/Taxi_241.pdf

Some Knowledge students are apparantly signing onto the easier Yellow Badge Knowledge with the sole intention of working in Central London. [-X

The sectors are now under review.

Be interested to see which law allows him to restrict vehicles, drivers or both.

Why dont they look into the numbers of PH instead, and possibly get the laws changed to restrict there numbers
They could start by removing all those posh gits who have registered there 2 seater sports cars as PH to get around the congestion charges

There is another scenario GBC and the rest might have to go saafffff of the river

It would be far better to improve the standards of the private hire drivers than it would to restrict them

In theory yes, but in practice impossible.

Greater London has an area of 610 or 659 square miles, depending which Internet reference you prefer. With something like 70,000 PH drivers, how on earth could any organisation police so many drivers in such a vast area.

You don't even know if a licensed driver is driving a PHV at any given time and with most PH operators now using data heads without any voice transmission from the driver back to base, even the PH base operators wouldn't know whether the same driver was driving car 1234 tonight as was driving the same vehicle last night.

The whole thing is now becoming, or has become impossible to police.

The fact that it is difficult or near impossible to police should not be the reason why better standards prior to license should not be implemented.

That is quite true. When I used to work just for one PH firm, I can go through a shift without talking to base at all.

Also, it's very easy to restrict the number of PH licenses - get PH drivers to do the Knowledge as well, the same as black taxi drivers (having said that, I wouldn't mind giving it a go), it will get rid of the rubbish who keep getting lost.

Well it would break the chains your currently shackled to.

Freedom is the name of the game as a Licensed London Taxi driver, and good earning if you're willing to work past midnight.

Now you've mentioned prior to licensing and now I agree.

But your initial posted only mentioned private hire drivers and we know that there are many unlicensed driver that drive PHVs because the brother was too tired to drive and agree that his brother could drive the PHV whilst he was asleep to earn a little extra cash.

The higher standards for PH drivers could be implemented over a period of years for the current license holders

If there are any such vehicles.....surely the police can check their insurance to see if they are insured as ''private hire'' and whether the driver has a badge or not as that is a legal requirement

They could start by removing all those posh gits who have registered there 2 seater sports cars as PH to get around the congestion charg
